I'm kinda surprised the university is going so hard against the claims in the civil suit. Again, from the ABC article:

"Any suggestion that the University did not impose consequential punishments for those involved is false," Cornell said on Monday. "A continuation of the false narrative that there were minimal consequences in this case is irresponsible, will make survivors feel less safe and supported, and will perpetuate the underreporting of sexual assault."

Oof this is a painful statement from Cornell. It doesn't deny that the essays were a part of the punishment! abcnews.com/US/district-...

At its conclusion, the hearing panel issued a range of sanctions, which included expulsions and suspensions from Cornell. None of the individuals charged were offered the opportunity to write essays as a sole consequence of their involvement."

There was almost a fight between Mariners and Tigers...??? Pitchers from both teams keep hitting batters, maybe that's why. I dunno. But now there's drama and booing.

Back to ultimate frisbee! San Diego Superbloom defeated Colorado Alpenglow in the second semi 16-14. Alpenglow had a one point lead in the first half, but then Superbloom pulled away. Such a good game! Alpenglow almost had it, maybe just a couple mistakes cost them a shot at the finals.

I'm feeling pretty validated after Soar got their first franchise and regular season win this past weekend against Wild! www.beyondthebig5.com/articles/sea...

Despite the loss, Oregon looked good. And that’s taking into account that the Steel brought fewer players than the Cascades; it bodes well for them that they were able to perform so well despite the smaller numbers. The Soar went 0-6 last year in their inaugural season in the WUL. They played close games against Bay Area Falcons and Colorado Alpenglow, and performed better in their second face off against Tempest than the first. So narrowing the gap here to a couple points – albeit in a shorter period than a real game – is a good sign.

On NPR (!!), @thefrankiedlc.news points out the hypocrisy of President Trump claiming to care about protecting women in sports, esp as a comparison point to Flavor Flav's support of USA Water Polo and now USA Hockey's womens teams. www.npr.org/2026/02/24/n...

De la Cretaz said they saw more hypocrisy coming from a president who has worked to ban transgender athletes. "So much of the anti-trans sports push has been about quote unquote, protecting women's sports. And if you want to 'protect women's sports,' it actually would be about investing and giving them the equal opportunity that men have and respecting them as athletes."

Gift link for @tariqpanja.bsky.social & @shawnhubler.bsky.social's story about LA28 chair Casey Wasserman & his emails in the Epstein files. Like pretty much all the US guys mentioned in the emails, the backlash from peers & sponsors has been basically non-existent. www.nytimes.com/2026/02/05/w...

Several Los Angeles civic leaders and officials, who requested anonymity to speak freely, noted that a British tabloid had published an article in 2024 — during the Paris Olympics — alleging he’d had numerous extramarital affairs. Although his reputation took a hit, these people said, expectations in Los Angeles have focused on making the Summer Games a financial success.

The last time Los Angeles hosted the Olympics, in 1984, the businessman Peter Ueberroth rallied the city behind a privately funded Summer Olympics that was not only profitable but also widely regarded as the salvation of the Olympic movement internationally.

They also said that while Mr. Wasserman’s connection to the Epstein files is awkward, he is not facing criminal accusations, and that so far, corporate sponsors have not indicated plans to withdraw their association with him or the Games.

The plantiff in the Idaho case didn't even want it heard in the Supreme Court... Yet here we are. www.espn.com/espn/story/_...

One possible issue that could arise on Tuesday is that Hecox asked the Supreme Court not to decide her case at all. She is no longer participating in sports in Idaho and therefore contends her case is "moot." Idaho contends the case is not moot because the state and Boise State University still have an interest in enforcing HB 500.
