Long overdue for an update, oops! Let's see what I've been up to. Filling safety orders, of course. 👀😍

Today's entry into "weird stuff I make with my son," here's my crochet interpretation of his "Airacuda," a sharp-toothed, poison-tailed flying beast with scaly wings and four red eyes. 🧶

A fun thing about this fantasy creatures collab with my 9yo son is that it challenges me to figure out crochet solutions for new shapes. Like this Airacuda ("like barracuda, but in the air") required a new body and neck design, a modification to my usual paw foot, and now I gotta make the wings 🤔

A crochet raptor/pterosaur kind of creature with taloned back legs and a vulture-like neck.

A child's drawing of a winged, four-eyed creature flying between jagged mountains.

My 8yo son is his Mama's boy and is very into creating fantasy worlds, so we decided to team up: he makes fantasy world maps, and I crochet the creatures who live in his magical lands. This is our first collaboration, which he has named the Sandstalker!

A crochet jackal-headed creature with a long, lithe body. It has a mottled brown body with a black head and lower limbs. Its erect jackal ears are slightly fluffy. It has a long-haired black tail and black skeletal antlers. It is standing on a rock against a backdrop of dried leaves.

A long-time customer dug up an old IG post of some eyes I'd made and asked if I could do it again, so I said I'd try - and they came out even better! Might have to add these to the permanent lineup.

I wrote up a little bit about putting @bexcreatures.bsky.social 's horns on my dragons. I suppose I could have waited until I had pictures of the finished dragon, but I am not known for patience.

Decided to break in the new account by going back to the beginning. Here are my first amis from spring 2021! 👶🏼 I started crocheting then as a way of keeping my hands busy on those pandemic evenings. I had a full-time job, a 4yo, a baby, and a lot of anxiety! 🧶

January 2021: My first "stuffie"... A ball.
Description: a cream, brown-flecked crochet sphere held in a white woman's palm.

February 2021: First finished amigurumi, a stegosaurus.
Description: An orange crochet stegosaurus with red back plates against a gray background.

May 2021: A baby blanket for my stepsister's little girl.
Description: A white baby blanket made of crochet bobble stitches, with lamb legs and head, folder over the railing of a white crib.

A small crochet raven (black wings and body, gray beak) in a green hood. It is Kiri, a kenku character from Critical Role, Campaign 2 (a D&D/TTRPG live play show).

A very busy yarn filled day at Unravel Festival. This was half my stand!

A yarn filled exhibition stand with lots of different colours. There is a table with a structure that has yarn in cubes and rectangles on it. With large semicircular shawls spread across the table cloth. On top of the structure are project bags in tie dyed fabrics. There are grid walls with yarn to the right of the table.

In the interest of moving off some platforms and building a presence on others, I decided to create a separate account for my fantasy crochet stuff 🦄🧶 So hi! I'm Bex, my lil' biz is called Bextraordinary Creatures, and I enjoy designing & making mixed-media beasties! #crochet #fiberart #fantasy

A crochet hydra stands on a rock in a forest. It is made of variegated pink, orange, and red yarn. It has three crested heads with different-colored safety eyes, four sauropod legs, and a long tail.

An ice-blue crochet unicorn standing in a light dusting of snow. It has a 3D-printed icy blue horn and a mix of white and silver novelty yarns for its mane and tail.

A serpent-like crochet dragon. The body is a camel-colored yarn with a darker brown embroidered design tracing the curve of the body. It has a dimetrodon-like sail on its back and a frilled neck lizard type of decoration around its neck.

A green crochet dragon resting on its side in front of a rosebush. The body is green yarn with some decorative crystals along the back. It has large pink butterfly wings and pink 3D-printed antennae.
