A major storm and flood in a natural river valley vs in a valley we have built up, dammed and live in the flood plain, is not only chalk n cheese, the way we report it is too. A huge flood causes a temp flooded plain, which recovers, but if houses wash away it's "$2m damage." WE make things worse.

The world will not be safe until the last owned politician is strangled with the entrails of the last billionaire. (thanks, Denis Diderot)

Humans lie. We lie and we lie. We lie as if our paychecks depend on it. And then we lie some more. It's what we do. When we're found out, we lie about that.

Shouldn't bluesky be going federated already? What's the holdup? Or should we go back to mastodon soon? When?

Agree. I don't think they honour ANY 'won't use' agreements. They all have tiny penis anxiety about someone else having more than them.

So often the true courage comes from strong women. Us men can talk, we can posture, we can fake 'courage' in sport and war, but we seldom show real courage.

And, of course, if (*doing whatever*) "doesn't make economic sense," then we must look for corruption, bribery, owning of lawmakers, etc for the reasons. We need to "follow the money."

Shame, poor mighty Captains of Industry. A 5% wage increase "will kill their businesses," they "can't afford it." Later: Increased dividends and CEO pay up a few million.

The truth is, truth is *hard* for the WSJ. Following 'the market,` and parroting a narrative that won't upset the rich is much MUCH easier for them. They would feel very uncomfortable ruffling rich feathers.

Yep. Facts. Logic. However. Solar is not doing any bribing, so it relies on facts alone. Oil n coal spend big in the right pockets. For some thieves, those $$ make them deaf to facts.

'Incapable,' they lie. They're *unwilling* to be honest. Their minders don't want them to be honest, so they aren't.

Dollars will do it. It's not low intelligence IMO. Bribery often entails doing nothing. Just do nothing - and get rich.

Yes! A friend is a naturalist author, books on African plants. When he judged gardens in our annual indigenous gardens show, people learnt why he gave some spectacular ones poor marks: "There's no leaves being eaten. There's no branches dying. What are you using to kill things?" he'd ask.

These conservation cons use much of this "COP" money to holiday in luxury on African safaris. They're conmen. They're charity farmers.

Sustainably farm and crop *their* cattle to best utilize their land, but Africans must not touch their animals. They must go hungry and watch the land degrade. If they harvest the animals, Big Conservation will PUNISH them.

This is how you get rich people far away from Africa "saving elephants," when we often should be sustainably CULLING elephants and thus saving their habitat and at the same time feeding the people who live near those wildlife areas. You know, like rich people do with *their* animals?

Yeah democracy is horrible, but we who are lucky to be in democracies *do* have to hold our noses and vote sometimes, cos fascism is infinitely worse. It's shitty, (yes BC of Gaza), but it's a duty.

Ah, brings to mind one of my pet subjects here in Africa. If you fence an area, no matter how big, you have to manage it. So that means (sorry) culling excess animals. Yes, even elephants. Or else you will ruin the habitat. Unpopular, but true. Off topic, sorry.

My favourite is getting into the V8 SUV, driving to the centre, jostling to park nearest the entrance, then going to the gym. I said to a friend, cancel gym membership, walk to the centre, turn round at the door and walk home. Looked at me like I was the loony.
