🇬🇧 Outside of the Athenaeum Club in London is a stone step - built at the request of the Duke of Wellington in 1830 - to make it easier to mount a horse. 🐴 The lower step is made of Mountsorrel granodiorite - quarried from Charnwood Forest🌳

🏗️ Stone quarried from Charnwood Forest is typically used with a rough finish: whether as kerbstones, setts, or stone for construction. 🏛️ This column from the Oxford University Museum of Natural History is a rare example of polished decorative Markfieldite, from Hill Hole.
