iiinova — where your digital self keeps evolving

To be fair, because it was so long ago there’s a tendency to romanticize things a bit. We don’t fully know everything that went down. There are some characters with more academic takes on things, of course.

This will come back around 😅. But I had to give the planet some ultimate background and unfortunately stuff like this was pretty common back in the day 😓

“You don’t have to do that,” he said, sitting down after a moment. “I have to eat either way. It’s simpler to cook enough for two,” Hoseok replied. And that made a kind of sense. Yoongi started to eat. 👑👑👑👑👑👑👑👑👑👑👑👑👑

- into Yoongi’s driveway. Yoongi tried to grapple with the declaration as he walked inside, as he threw off his clothes and showered, as he changed, as he went into the kitchen and looked in surprise at the food Hoseok had already cooked - some kind of red soup, and warm bread.

Hoseok shrugged. “I’m no historian. I’m sure there were many factors. I’m only explaining to you what you mean to people, being the youngest omega of your line. No one on Lorath will look at your face and see Jongyu’s heir. They’ll see Mins. That’s why people care,” he said, finally pulling the -

“I’ve read books about it. Most of them say that the issues that culminated under Jongyu’s rule started decades earlier and were the product of a century of stagnation and poor decision-making. Not a magical shift that happened overnight because the sex of the Zar changed.” Yoongi said.

- the greatest famine in history. Over ten million people died in the war against the Empire’s Sovereign Alliance. Funding for essential parts of the government were depleted within a few years. And the corruption was the worst it had ever been.”

“Perhaps. Or perhaps not. Jongyu wasn’t an omega, after all. That was part of Min’s inheritance doctrine. Never an alpha could sit the throne. And wouldn’t you know - a hundred and ten years ago, the monarchy was passed down to an alpha. And within a decade, our planet suffered -

“It’s a good story. But I’ve heard others. Grandmother always said her brother Jongyu deserved what happened to him. In the end, maybe things come full circle. Maybe there shouldn’t be any monarchy, even if it starts out with good intentions,” he suggested.

- on a very different course. She had new infrastructure built. Proper hospitals. Schools. Mandated education. Clean water. By the end of her term, people loved her so much they made her Zarina and founded a new monarchy. Your family,” Hoseok explained. Yoongi swallowed.

“Min was fifteen years of age, still just a child. And it’s still considered a miracle she was chosen. A genius or a prodigy, some say today. But Min seized control of the military, jailed over a hundred corrupt nobles, drafted a new constitution, passed dozens of new laws, and set our planet -

“Min wasn’t probably of the upper class to some extent, or maybe not, but the point is that we know we used to have a different monarchy until people rioted enough that a true election was held. And in that election, an alpha heir was passed over for an omega, Min,” Hoseok seemed fond of the story.

“We know we were a war-mongering people for several thousand years. And we also know that four thousand years ago, an omega named ‘Min’ was elected over an alpha for the first time in history , and she changed the entire system,” Hoseok said. Yoongi looked up.

Yoongi tried to wrap his mind around it. The horribleness of it, even as it felt distant. “It sounds like another reason I should stay away from Lorath,” he muttered finally, looking out the window, not sure what more to say.

“Last I heard, our archaeologists had found several pits with hundreds of thousands of bodies and bodies in them each. The haphazard nature of it, and how they’d all been gathered in a few difficult to reach spots…it’s clear they were rounded up and taken there. And then systematically murdered.”

“So there was a different branch of early humans.” “The mazemakers. When I was in school everyone talked about them. The discovery was new about fifteen years ago. Who were they? What was their culture like? Did our ancestors interact with them?”Hoseok mused, before sighing.

190

“They’re made of naturally-occurring substances on the planet - stone, ash, among other things. But the exact configuration isnt something we can recreate even with our technology. It’s a prominent field of study at Lorath’s major universities.” Yoongi tried to think.

190

Yoongi’s stomach felt heavy. He swallowed. “The mazes,” he repeated uncertainly. Of course he knew about the mazes. There were several hundred giant mazes on Lorath, very ancient and prominent tourist attractions. His grandmother had never spoken much of them.

190

“A smart kid is still a kid.” “Our people weren’t the first to settle Lorath. Did you know? On the planet itself, we weren’t the first inhabitants. The history that’s shared widely shrouds our origins in mystery, says the mazes must have been built by our ancestors, but the truth is simple.”

“I know that it sounds like child abuse,” Yoongi replied. “Not any child was made ruler. Our monarchy was handed down matrilineally, to the heir with the most promise even if it was a cousin, a niece, or a great grandchild.”

Hoseok shook his head, shifting the car into a different lane. “Do you know why Lorath had child rulers for three thousand years?” He asked. Yoongi…did not know. Had never given it much thought except as a distant problematic fact about a planet he liked the food of, but that didn’t affect him.

“Who the fuck would buy a t-shirt with my face on it?” “You have to understand it in context. A lot of people were unhappy with Demos from the start.” “That doesn’t have anything to do with me,” Yoongi muttered.

Hoseok reflected for a few moments, watching the traffic signs pass by. “You mean more to people than you realize.” “I can’t mean anything to people who have no idea who I am,” Yoongi argued. “They sell t-shirts with your face, you know. The photos aren’t great - but they’re out there.”
