Queensland Rail is putting a major frequency reduction in place from Tuesday the 5th of May until further notice, which will see peak train trips heavily reduced. BTQ understands that this is due to recent industrial action resulting in a backlog of trains which require servicing.
A graphic which reads as follows:

MAJOR TRAIN FREQUENCY REDUCTION

PEAK FREQUENCY REDUCED TO EVERY 30 MINUTES on the Beenleigh, Doomben, Rosewood, Shorncliffe, and Sunshine Coast lines

PEAK FREQUENCY REDUCED TO EVERY 15 MINUTES on all other lines

WEEKDAY TRAINS RUNNING TO SATURDAY TIMETABLE

Fuel prices are surging, and yet public transport usage on the Sunshine Coast seems unchanged. Why? We recently appeared on ABC Sunshine Coast discussing why fuel prices haven't pushed up PT usage, the Wave, and if it's more than just a cultural choice. Check it out below

Queenslanders hit with millions in fines since 50c fares introduced
The penalties would help authorities recover $7,070.50 in revenue they otherwise would have collected if the commuters had paid their 50 cent fare.

We were ABC News Brisbane this morning talking about 50c fares and fare evasion. It's worth adding one more graph to the conversation: infringements issued per inspection performed. What this suggests is that fare evasion has dropped significantly since mid 2024. 1/2

4. Public Funding and Fairer Fares. Brisbane Airtrain’s high fares are a major deterrent to taking public transport to and from Brisbane Airport. BTQ recommends subsidising Aitrain fares to a more affordable level, as it was between August 2024 and February 2025.

3. Extend Gold CityGlider to Skygate and DFO Brisbane Airport. To increase connectivity to Brisbane Airport, Brisbane City Council’s high-frequency Gold Glider bus service should be extended from its proposed terminus at Hamilton Northshore directly into the Skygate precinct at Brisbane Airport.

Better Transport Queensland @bettertransportqueensland.org · 24/10/2025
2. Increased Off-Peak Train Frequency. Improving Brisbane Airtrain’s off-peak frequency to a consistent 15-minute frequency, similar to Perth’s Airport train, would make the train a truly viable alternative to car travel for passengers and the growing precinct workforce.

1. Extend Brisbane Airtrain Operating Hours. BTQ calls on the Queensland Government to fund the extension of Brisbane Airtrain operating hours from the current 10:00 pm to midnight. We also call for earlier train services to cater to the first flights and early shifts.

4. More Trains and Translink Fares for Brisbane Airtrain. This will reduce ticket prices while not requiring the costly buyout of Airtrain’s business. It is similar to how Translink already pays for existing private operators of bus, ferry and light rail services to provide public transport in QLD
100
Better Transport Queensland @bettertransportqueensland.org · 17/10/2025
3. More High-Frequency Trains. Services on the Shorncliffe, Kippa-Ring and Springfield rail lines should be upgraded to trains every 15 minutes in the off-peak. Ipswich train services should be transitioned to an all-day express train pattern.
100
Better Transport Queensland @bettertransportqueensland.org · 17/10/2025
2. More High-Frequency Buses. BCC’s high-frequency Bus Upgrade Zone program (BUZ) should be restarted and expanded. The effectiveness of this program is proven - typical patronage increases were 100% or more.

Not sure I can agree with bicycles on GCLR. It’s often far too crowded. It’s also pretty slow, so you could probably ride your bike at around the same speed. Most of the route is rather flat, too.
