I did smile at the logistics involved and the huge armoury that a film production team had to carry with them. A very different era.

First thought was that Mamas and Papas' compilations are not that rare. Quickly checked and there are at least 23 of them. I'm sure this is one of the best though 🙂

Not watching but from the way the innings is going it looks like a proper dogfight. Like you say, the real thing.

South Africa have got a very busy few months and I suspect Jansen is going to have an absolute whale of a time

Along with the rubbish about black footballers I suspect the back room team are far less smart than they think they are

But Simon, don't you know the whole party is very 'chipper' apparently 🙂

Yup. And the chicken and egg sequencing becomes a real problem whether it is done via referendum or GE. Asking people to vote for something not yet agreed makes the vote an even less informed one. And not sure the EU will agree to any aspects until UK has shown commitment.

I've seen this photo quite a lot this week and it's really striking. You feel she was a lot of fun to be around as well as being a genius.

Indeed. There was a recent poll that followed up the main question with another about accepting the Euro and Schengen and the majority disappeared. I'll try to dig it up.

In the 90s Wisden cricket mag published an article that said black England test players did not have the same commitment to the cause as their white team mates. Some really grim content...

Great write-up of a very good film that is depressingly pertinent

The Bayeux museum is really well done and a pleasure to visit. We were also taken with the town itself which we thought was lovely

Seems a real miss that he didn't for sure, he was a natural and brilliant raconteur. There is an interview with Parkinson where he is on absolutely top form. Tom Hanks was the other guest and he can hardly contain himself.

A quasi security/policing incursion, rather than full military invasion, in Narva seems like a risk?

Weird thing about Horses. Every time I return to it it’s not an exercise in nostalgia. Each new listen it sounds new, fresh and modern

Would agree with this, especially before Australia became too dominant (even then they drew some great performances fom others). Also, Sri Lanka emerging and Zimbabwe briefly threatening to. Shame England weren't better but they still had some great matches and series.

Here's something nice about Clacton, nicer than Farage for sure. It's my Dad's cricket cap from his days at Clacton Grammar School 😊

I thought for a moment that Januray might be some small town in the Hebrides or something and the gig a Wicker Man type vibe.

I really enjoyed The Umbrella Man and Martin also speaks very well if you get the chance. It's not a whodunnit though and deliberately so.

If I may suggest, here's one that connects to the last in your list and is written by a woman. I haven't read this yet, only came across it yesterday 🙂 www.waterstones.com/book/the-nur...

Yeah, I used to drive regularly past RAF Lakenheath on the not insignificant A road that goes right along one stretch of the perimeter fence. They even have an official viewing area at one point!

Avoiding reading anything about this atm. Have seen the first three so far and it is quite staggering TV, but suspect it's best seeing the rest without any prior knowledge. The vision to do this is quite something isn't it?

Also interested in how it brought us an iconic score but manages without (I believe) incidental music.

Good and fair write-up. I think maybe a part of the way it was approached can be seen in how Enfield engaged with the Zulu actors. And, yes, some compelling performances. Glad you mentioned how good it looks now, was astounded when I bought it on BluRay.

I did see this and it is very interesting. My main concern is that the progressive block (for want of a better word) is smaller than it was 2+ years ago. But if it's more efficient maybe that's a good trade-off.

Yes and I think one of the problems the Tories have is that I am pretty sure there was polling which suggested that Con-Reform switchers are very resistant to doing the reverse journey.
