Today's culture meltdown isn't just reactionary; it's the coming-clean of how many advances were only 'allowed' so long as they did a special service for a patriarchal class. You can work, if it means we can undercut a living wage. You can play, if it means I can see legs on TV at the sports bar.

All of this gets extra creepy if you think about how many athletes are underage girls, too. If these dynamics weren't at least an undercurrent to sports decision-making, do you think that we'd organize sports differently? Would we concentrate 'young girls in tiny leotards' in the same way?

There are barely any professional trans athletes, but this doesn't work as a debunk. This panic doesn't care about people who exist. It's about about Looking At Women who meet certain sexual criteria exactly. The transphobe can be anyone but the uproar is always a defense of a specific sexuality.

The few athletes that actually get on this train are cashing in to the $$$ of these voyeurs. Riley Gaines for example. She changed careers from 'I swim and they ogle me for free' to 'I get paid to validate their ogling and ogling preferences.' Under-bus throwing on the side.

The moral panic about transgender women in sports makes perfect sense if you take this lens. The 'fear of male advantage' is a fig leaf; controversy is mostly driven by sports audience, not athletes. Voyeurs. They want to be sure no girls hopping around for their amusement have or have had a penis.

If this wasn't the case, there would be 0 cases of female athletes protesting the outfits they're told to compete in. Because they'd be picking those outfits, or they'd be standardized to be equal to men's outfits. Again, we can see this easily in mixed-sex sports.

Similarly, you won't be enduring male tennis players if you want to see Serena Williams' legs. She can beat pretty much any man, she's not at a disadvantage against them. Therefore the only reason athletes like her are isolated is for entertainment's sake.

In fact, I think porn is one of the last things in our world that is strongly sorted this way. If a piece of porn is stated to be about a Horny Single Mom, you won't usually endure more than one non-horny, non-single, non-mom to see her. Not many surprises.

So we have to ask WHY is this actually enforced? Especially today, when organizations are almost all co-ed by default? Forget the bioessentialist stuff. I argue that it's for the same reasons that pornography is still often sorted by gender of interest. Usually what genitals to expect is implied.

The standards of dress have also changed for men in that time. Sometimes, their costumes have gotten scantier, too. But why isn't it feeling the same? It's the assumed audience. The voyeurs. There is an unspoken cultural difference in what 'men's swimming' and 'women's swimming' are 'for.'

While many official women's sports were established in the past with different standards of dress, over time the way female athletes are framed hasn't tracked with those standards. It's tracked with entertainment. Sports is entertainment; how are women expected to 'entertain' in our culture?

We know that this is artificially enforced because some sports have been mixed-sex for a long time. Equestrian sports for example, even though you could make the same appeals to 'biology.' Are women typically lighter, better jockeys? Do men with longer legs find it easier to barrel race? Who cares.

Does this apply to every sport? No. But tell me how popular and well-known women's weight lifting, baseball, football, are next to women's tennis, volleyball, gymnastics, etc.? In order to keep 'sexy sports' segregated by gender, other sports wind up organized the same way.

I want to make absolutely clear first-thing though that I am not anti-pornography. Satisfy your desires within possibility, protect sex workers. The problem here is exploitation of bodies that are trying to do sports. They're being 'allowed to play' as long as they're sexually exciting.

Of course it's hypocrisy and also medical abuse, but we shouldn't overlook how this move is for someone's entertainment. The military entertains them if it's full of Rambo lookalikes. The military disappoints them if they have to look at the assorted poors they coerced into joining.

The reason why these were hard to learn in school for a lot of people is how the social setting punishes personality. Intro&Conclusion are where you can catch interest but many students don't feel comfortable to/know to use voice. The body is where you 'give the right answer', less vulnerably.

Tim is right that a functional federal govt. exists to work for the states (which are formed by people) -- it has no purpose otherwise. But we may want to be more explicit that the current federal govt. is exploiting the normal relationship, shipping in stormtroopers to punish specific subjects.
