Ok the lantern fly experience just got grosser. They are dead on the floor INSIDE my clients’ office building.

Beth Soderberg @bethsoderberg.bsky.social · 08/09/2025

Just in case anyone has been wondering where the spotted lantern flies are: Arlington. There are at least a few dozen dead (many squashed - yay humans) outside of my fave little bagel place. I squashed the ones that looked alive

Lots of progress tonight. I’ve been angling to do the dots on the bib for … months 🤣

Ok on the bright side apparently my childhood self was hilarious and made this turtle. I have no memory of this at all.

Tonight’s dinosaur! A stegosaurus! I had to help with plate, spike and toe placement. The toes are seriously hard, y’all.

Rubbings have become the only way for me to see what to do next with the faces.

Kid made his first TRex almost all by himself and I can’t stop thinking about how fabulous it is. We’ve been making dinosaurs for probably about a year. This was like 90% unassisted, I put the teeth, toes and fingers on, but that’s it!

Sometimes you just need to do a rubbing to see what you’re working with

Second print’s progress tonight. I’ve been stuck on this one for awhile, so hopefully adding a layer gets me back in my groove with it.

Tonight’s progress on my first print. I somehow carved and printed both blocks tonight, which is insanely fast since this is a slow slow art.

Pretty sure I found my first print. My parents and I think it’s from first or second grade:

HAPPY BLACK HISTORY MONTH! I’d love to credit whomever created this lovely image but… the internet has anonymized them already.

It’s Black History Month no matter what they say.

Genuine question: why did it take over an hour for there to be widespread reporting on this? This is the local alerts message I got at 9:31pm EST about a full ground stoppage at DCA:

Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport (DCA) reports a full groundstop due to emergency response.

Last night’s progress. I’m thankful to know that art saves my sanity even on the hardest of days. Drawing, newly carved block, and the days’ before/after.
