Beth Goder @bethgoder.bsky.social · 12/11/2024I promise the story is better than this graphic I made for it, haha. 160
Beth Goder @bethgoder.bsky.social · 29/10/2024I'm trying a new thing where I make little graphics for my stories. Here is the first one! 060
Beth Goder @bethgoder.bsky.social · 10/09/2024The Delicacy by James Albon In this graphic novel, two brothers come to the big city (London) to set up a restaurant and farm. Things get wild from there. Gripping plot, creepy vibes, lots of fun. 040
Beth Goder @bethgoder.bsky.social · 13/05/2024The Husbands by Holly Gramazio. Lauren comes home to a husband who wasn't there before. Turns out, she has a magic attic, which lets her swap husbands. Hilarious, great plot, so much fun. My husband gave me this book. We've had many jokes about how I like him and won't send him up to the attic. 020
Beth Goder @bethgoder.bsky.social · 05/04/2024The Book of Love by Kelly Link. Masterful, stunning, engaging. The brilliance of a Kelly Link story, but you get to read it for 600 pages! It is so good! 120
Beth Goder @bethgoder.bsky.social · 05/04/2024How To Be Perfect by Michael Schur, the creator of The Good Place. This book covers the basics of ethics in a fun and readable way. (No mean feat for a book about philosophy.) It was hilarious while also making me think deeply. 170
Beth Goder @bethgoder.bsky.social · 27/01/2024Today is a great day to write beautiful things. Image credit: "Flowers" by tejvanphotos is licensed under CC BY 2.0 040
Beth Goder @bethgoder.bsky.social · 18/01/2024System Collapse by Martha Wells. Another great book in the Murderbot Diaries. Fast-paced, exciting, with a hard science fiction flare. And, of course, our lovable Murderbot, who I just want to tell everything is okay and give a hug, but who I would not hug because Murderbot would not like that. 030
Beth Goder @bethgoder.bsky.social · 11/01/2024Two Can Keep a Secret by Karen M. McManus. Another winner from McManus. She writes great YA mystery. This one has mysterious disappearances in the present and the past, creepy vandalism, and a main character who loves true crime maybe just a bit too much. A page turner. 010
Beth Goder @bethgoder.bsky.social · 09/01/2024Still Writing by Dani Shapiro. This is a book on the writing life with some advice for authors, but I think the sections that really shine are the memoir portions, where the author talks about her childhood and other moments from her life. 000
Beth Goder @bethgoder.bsky.social · 29/12/2023The First Bright Thing by J.R. Dawson. A magic circus in the 1920s, found family, and a villain who literally gave me nightmares. This book was intensely readable. (I did not want to put it down.) 020
Beth Goder @bethgoder.bsky.social · 26/12/2023Roaming by Jillian Tamaki and Mariko Tamaki. A graphic novel that so accurately depicts young love and toxic friendships, with clear, beautiful art. The relationships between these 19-year-olds felt so real to me. That cool, irreverent, aggressive person who seems so appealing when one is 19... 241
Beth Goder @bethgoder.bsky.social · 07/12/2023Wellness by Nathan Hill. At it's heart, a love story, a marriage story, but also a story about family and the parents we have and the parents we become. Beautifully written, full of interesting facts. A book that is saying something true about life. 010
Beth Goder @bethgoder.bsky.social · 02/12/2023Translation State by @annleckie.com Phenomenal science fiction. A fast-paced and intricate novel, full of interesting aliens and engrossing political machinations. One of the best books I've read all year. 031
Beth Goder @bethgoder.bsky.social · 27/11/2023Starling House by Alix E. Harrow. A gorgeous gothic novel with a haunted house at its center and metatextual footnotes. I love how this story explores how history is created and our understanding of the past, how the stories we tell become what's true. 2122
Beth Goder @bethgoder.bsky.social · 23/11/2023Drunk on All Your Strange New Words by Eddie Robson. Aliens, translators, murder! Writing that is so good and fresh and compelling. This book is so much fun. 131
Beth Goder @bethgoder.bsky.social · 20/11/2023Mammoth at the Gates by Nghi Vo. Cleric Chih comes home to the Singing Hills to find (you guessed it) mammoths at the gates. I love how this novella takes us to the archives, the place where all those collected stories are going. Such a great series. Always goes straight to the top of my TBR pile. 010
Beth Goder @bethgoder.bsky.social · 15/11/2023Eight Billion Genies by Charles Soule and Ryan Browne. What would happen if everyone in the world got a wish at the same time? This graphic novel explores this question, starting in a bar and spanning centuries. Amazing story, stunning art. There are like eight billion reasons to love this book. 080
Beth Goder @bethgoder.bsky.social · 25/10/2023I just finished Family Style: Memories of an American from Vietnam. It's a powerful and moving graphic novel memoir told through the framework of food. Thanks to @karenluk.bsky.social for the recommendation! 011
