People trying to make fun of me on X are hilarious. This isn’t even rude: it is just an accurate observation 🤣

If the idea of America was not radical, it would not be under attack. This Fourth of July I am prouder than ever to stand for a nation where we celebrate our neighbors regardless of religion, race, creed or background. America is not just an idea: it is an idea worth fighting for.
A person with short hair, glasses and a goatee wears a retro-looking t-shirt that says “America Is An Idea”. They stand in front of greenery with ferns, bushes and trees, dappled by sunlight.

May we all carry the joy, celebration and energy of Pride into the rest of the year.
A smiling person with glasses and a goatee carrying the Progress flag. In the background a crowd stands on the sidewalk in front of a classic New England brick building.

I recently came up with a whole thread of relevant offences: bsky.app/profile/beth...
A hand-made cardboard sign that says “For CUTTING off our TRADE with ALL parts of the WORLD”, written in sharpie on a white background.

Working in health tech, there are sometimes namespace collisions. I saw “CMMI” and nearly had a heart attack before I realized that it referred to the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Innovation 😅
A cartoon of two dinosaurs reacting to the phrase “everyone on my floor is coding”. The software engineer dinosaur is delighted. The doctor dinosaur is horrified.

From Writing Without Teachers. I believe strongly that this applies to code as well.
A book with words that include: “To improve your writing [and here writing is crossed out & “coding” is written above in purple letters] you don’t need advice about what changes to make; you don’t need theories about what is good and bad writing. You need movies of people’s minds while they read your words.”

Since it is in the New York Times, I assume this will be correct.
A screen shot of a new york times crossword puzzle with one clue visible: “Journalistic Concern” and only that answer entered on the grid as “BIDENSAGE”.

It’s not quite as bad as 5e or P3 for character creation: the complexity builds slowly as characters level. But especially for tracking all the transient effects & non-stacking modifiers, it makes a huge difference not to have to do it by hand. This is the display tab of one of mine…
A character sheet for a Pathfinder 1 character named Syd, built in Google Docs. It shows ten different color-coded sections for things like skill checks, hit points, attacks, spells, abilities, saves and ability scores, and has seven additional tabs visible below. The box for spells spills off the right side of the page despite the screen shot having been taken in landscape mode, where it is wider than it is tall.

Meanwhile Rivian…
A grey Rivian electric truck covered in dust except where the wiper scrapes it off is driving through a muddy river with brown scrub brush and a sandstone cliff behind it. The water is high enough to partially cover the headlights, but isn’t over the hood. It is well over the wheels and door, where the Cybertruck wilts.

It has been brought to my attention that I don’t tweet enough about my art. I kinda assume that landscapes are like vacation photos: they are mostly interesting to me because I was there. But if you are curious, this is what I’ve been up to lately.
A painting of a watercolor landscape, sitting on a wooden table. It features a tree in the foreground, a river flowing between two rock walls, and a pale purple ghost of a tree fading in the background.

For books, even if we just look at printed books sales they haven’t fallen: But those sales are being shared among a larger pool of authors.

It used to work because publishers created an artificially-limited market: authors were desperate to be one of the 24k new books published each year, but when they did they were the only options readers had. But of course that system was discriminatory af.

When developers say “we can take a shortcut”, it is safe to assume it is a shortcut like this one
A mountainous path of red rocks being climbed, with much difficulty and precariously-tilted axels, by two jeeps. It was almost certainly faster to just take the road.

For my latest attempt instead of getting into the weeds I just tried to convince people it is possible for reviews to be a delightful experience, and if they aren't it is worth taking a look at how to make them better.
An animated gif of Inigo Montoya from The Princess Bride, played by a young Mandy Patinkin with shoulder-length curls and curtain bangs, saying, "Let me explain... no, there is too much. Let me sum up."
