"We are holding a lot of your people who you failed to love and take care of" I am one of those. I will always be grateful for the hospitality Massachusetts offered a teenager from rural Oregon. "Affordability" isn't just a buzzword. Those looking for a home should be able to afford one here.

Tech is the first industry built after “shareholder primacy” became a thing. Financialization has been a disaster.

No one wants to admit that the charismatic Black socialist could have crossover appeal. Third Way is crossing their fingers that she doesn’t.

We have a whole meme about how radical it is! When the forces of wealth are arrayed against the government doing its job competently, electing competence requires socialism.
An Onion article with a picture of DeBlasio. The headline is: “DeBlasio: ‘Well, well, well, not so easy to find a mayor that doesn’t suck shit, huh?”

The “Last Generation” politics in America right now are brutally racist.

Many people may not be able to. Some people absolutely can. Much of the conflict right now is between those two groups. One resents that the other can tell & judges them for using it. The other resents that the first expects them to consume AI-generated slop.

Having the entire right wing organized around “always lower taxes” has been an absolute disaster.

We are in a place where “fiscal hawk” just means “raising sufficient revenue to cover spending” 🫠 The Republican Party wants to put everything on credit cards to bankrupt the country and the centrist Democrats use tax cuts instead of admitting they are spending money.

There is a runaway winner problem when money controls politics. Massachusetts Ballot Measure 3 makes money more powerful in elections. It has $5 MILLION+ supporting making money more important. There is $150,000 against. When dollars get to vote, they vote to give themselves more power.

There is a good bit of work to do after a campaign is done. Closing out accounts, filing the paperwork. Recycling lawn signs into mushroom-themed larp shields.
A round larp shield in the process of being made. Two circles of corrugated plastic have been cut out of lawn signs that say “Bethany Andres-Beck for Congress: Rebooting Democracy”. One has been covered in brown duct tape. The other has a door handle on one side and a belt run through two holes on the other.A larp shield leans against a couch in a living room. It is now complete: there is black foam around the edge and yellow and black dots have been added that make it look like a cartoonish mushroom. 🍄‍🟫 Still leaning against the couch, the back of the shield is visible. Wood-grained tape radiates from the center like the gills of a mushroom, and a foam pad in the center is made to look like a mushroom stem.

This idea that there are Good People and Bad People and only Good People do Good Things and vise versa is so toxic. There are just people, who do things for reasons. Supporting people with reasons to do the things you want is great! Giving people a reason to do the things you want is also great!

When data becomes plentiful and easy to collect, it becomes tempting to rely just on the data. It is easier to move a metric than to create something actually useful. I watched good software destroyed by an obsession with data. And now I’m watching the same thing happen in our politics.

When our experiences conflict with the statistics, it is time to ask “why?” People aren’t wrong about what they are experiencing. This sucks and the fascists destroying our government are making it worse.

We had these conversations at the time. The core of the Occupy coalition was young folks out of work and older Black folks who had been given exploding mortgages by the banks. It felt like we were invisible. Until we started drum circles outside of the New York Times offices.

In 2008 the economic pain was concentrated. Older college grads mostly had jobs even when 25% of young people were unemployed. It hit Cali and NY, but Nebraska was fine. People are acting like this is worse. Unless they are Millennial from Michigan, it probably is. Gas prices affect everyone.

The new AI propaganda: claiming that the water use is over-stated because it is possible to build data centers that use more electricity instead. That is exactly why we should require them to be built that way! In the meantime, ~56% of data centers use water-intensive evaporative cooling.

“Your support should matter more than support from out-of-state healthcare executives” It is easy to make the case for matching in-district campaign donations. Plus, it doesn’t require a Constitutional Amendment.

The Massachusetts approach is the path forward: no laws of any kind should be permitted to target abortion care. We can’t treat the anti-abortion movement’s proposals as legitimate or in good faith. They are neither.

Tuberville attacking furries isn’t surprising. Furries are everything he hates: pro-union, anti-corporate-power, competent, joyful, etc. But attacking furries for flying planes is just confusing. Frankly, it seems like a natural career choice for a Protogen.

Instead, so far we letting insurance companies abuse technology to dodge even more responsibility. And now the companies building these AI models are also going to be responsible for the people their software kills.

The most effective solution to this is a national health service. The capitalist solution would be to stop protecting insurance companies from being sued for damages and assign them a duty of care.

The healthcare system relied on people being too lazy or busy or just discouraged to actually collect their promised benefits. AI had turned that billing system into a spam arms race. www.nytimes.com/2026/09/24/b...

It is going to take up about half the voter booklet, because they are printing the entire law we are being asked to vote on as though we are the legislature. The “veto” referendum process should be changed to at least be a vote to veto a law. But in the meantime the NRA is taking advantage.

I am curious what the dumbest program is that we could qualify as an “artificial super-intelligence” under the AI monopoly bill. Facebook-of-2010-and-2016 actually did overthrow governents, so it’s already a pretty low lower bound.

Massachusetts has a very long ballot this November. The last one, question 9, is especially weird. For that is for that one, and only that one, we have to vote “yes” to keep things the way they are.

When I talk to voters I don’t talk about “abolishing the Senate”. I talk about shortening the election cycle to six weeks so they aren’t bombarded with political ads year-round. It is amazing how popular our goals can be. Especially in swing states.

When AI companies sell their tech as anti-consumer products, they are building the opposition to AI. The opposition isn’t because people haven’t tried the technologies yet. It is because too many voters have had the technologies used against them.

Re-reading Haraway’s 1985 Cyborg Manifesto about how programmers want universal, totalitizing language, and how people can resist that commodification most effectively by embracing diversity and community relationships is a total trip. There were people who saw this coming.

If Congress wants to shut down LLMs, it would say training is never fair use. If Congress wants to tank the giant companies training LLMs, it would say training is always fair use. Big tech is relying on Schrödinger’s copyright.
