Beth @beth-ccl.bsky.social · 11/10/2026He makes the weirdest comments about good looking men. Can you imagine if a Dem did that? Or really any politician? 000
Beth @beth-ccl.bsky.social · 10/10/2026In addition to Idiocracy, Iran, North Korea, and Afghanistan do public executions. What are we doing here? 000
Beth @beth-ccl.bsky.social · 10/10/2026I'm an elder millennial and I've never paid a dime for streaming. When a new album comes out I buy the songs I want on Apple Music. I've started ripping my collection back to CD before the terms of service is updated to make me pay a monthly fee to listen to my own songs. 000
Beth @beth-ccl.bsky.social · 10/10/2026"Tariffs are bringing in revenue" So is it good or bad for the government to have revenue? The most consistent GOP economic policy is low taxes (aka government revenue). 010
Beth @beth-ccl.bsky.social · 09/10/2026NC native here. DJT promoted Mark "ain't but two genders" Robinson over state treasurer Dale Folwell for governor, now an oil lobbyist for senate. They've dug their own grave. It's sad, because I prefer politicians having to do their jobs to get re-elected. The best thing about a purple state. 000
Beth @beth-ccl.bsky.social · 18/07/2026In a Venn diagram, "how AI should be used" and "how it's being used" overlap just the tiniest sliver. It will not do jobs but we will get laid off then in a year these companies will be in a panic trying to find people who remember how to do things, and we will be on hold forever with Chat GPT. 020
Beth @beth-ccl.bsky.social · 18/07/2026I'm in your bubble. AI is awful and I've turned it off everywhere I can. I can't have different y-axes on the left and right in Excel anymore because now that can be done only if I'm paying for Copilot, which I'm not. 000
Beth @beth-ccl.bsky.social · 18/07/2026I'm an educator. I love math. But "shows up and tries even when it's not important" is a skill that's very transferable to the workplace, much more than calculus. Props to your kids! 120
Beth @beth-ccl.bsky.social · 04/05/2026Kids need to be building real intelligence, learning to read and summarize themselves, and reason critically. Entry level AI is completely counter to all of those goals. 010
Beth @beth-ccl.bsky.social · 28/04/2026I had to go back to school in my early 20s to get back on my parents' health insurance because I couldn't find a job with health coverage quickly enough. (Pre ACA.) The ACA was an improvement but the healthcare system is still a dystopia. 010
Beth @beth-ccl.bsky.social · 28/04/2026Thing about the Medicaid/Medicare fraud the GOP constantly alleges is that it can be and is prosecuted. But it would take an act of congress (ha!) to make it illegal for insurance companies to constantly change what they cover and delay care. And we know how useless congress is. 000
Beth @beth-ccl.bsky.social · 27/04/2026Fixing real problems is hard. Manufacturing crises out of books in a district you don't represent is much easier. 030
Beth @beth-ccl.bsky.social · 27/04/2026Good thing for those woke people in Chapel Hill or he might have to do something about the poverty, crime, and receding economy in the district he represents. 000
Beth @beth-ccl.bsky.social · 27/04/2026Hegseth told the generals to practice on blue cities. Makes me appreciate that W didn't blame 9/11 on Clinton or "woke." 000
Beth @beth-ccl.bsky.social · 27/04/2026Here in NC the urban areas pay the most taxes and the rural areas get the most (per capita) subsidies. Despite the higher cost of living, people keep moving to the urban areas. That should tell us that the reps of those rural areas need to step it up. 010
Beth @beth-ccl.bsky.social · 27/04/2026Very sad they trusted him. Also sad and frustrating that "can afford market value insurance" according to the federal government is nowhere close to a decent income. 020
Beth @beth-ccl.bsky.social · 22/04/2026Blue Virginia has been poaching teachers and public servants from purple NC for years. Yes, what a hellscape. 000
Beth @beth-ccl.bsky.social · 22/04/2026No matter how bad the current GOP may be, no one wants to be gerrymandered into a minority. I would not expect this same anger translating into midterm votes. 000
Beth @beth-ccl.bsky.social · 22/04/2026Just looking at the overall % of one party and the % representatives does not prove gerrymandering. In NC where I am, there are blue areas and red areas. In some states the population is more homogenous so it is just not possible to make a district for a group that doesn't have any strongholds. 000
Beth @beth-ccl.bsky.social · 20/04/2026It's been tough for The Onion and satire in general these days 000
Beth @beth-ccl.bsky.social · 18/04/2026I don't know what exactly motivates people to become terrorists, but I'm pretty sure losing a child to a missile would be right up there. We will be dealing with the fallout from this for years. 000
Beth @beth-ccl.bsky.social · 18/04/2026As a former teacher, I concur. It is impossible for every single rule to be enforced with brute force. People who realize that authorities don't have the resources to enforce every rule might get away with a lot but it will come back to bite them (I hope). 010
Beth @beth-ccl.bsky.social · 16/04/2026With the threat to destroy an entire civilization last week I almost forgot about the Americans he got killed and immigrants who have died in custody, both legal and otherwise, mostly not criminals. Ugh. 010
Beth @beth-ccl.bsky.social · 16/04/2026I wish they would fight the abuses of insurance companies who delay life-saving care or remove important drugs from their formularies with the same vengeance they pursue Medicaid and Medicare fraud. 000
Beth @beth-ccl.bsky.social · 16/04/2026Many things are artificially overpriced, such as healthcare and housing. But if it takes an army of people working for $9 an hour to keep fast food prices low, then fast food needs to be more expensive. 000
Beth @beth-ccl.bsky.social · 16/04/2026Immigrants being willing to work for less $ suppresses wages, but it also lowers prices. We saw after the pandemic that Americans really, really don't want higher prices. We will need to come to grips with the reality that we we won't have high wages and cheap stuff. 110
Beth @beth-ccl.bsky.social · 16/04/2026I saw he is more popular with Democrats than with Republicans. Unsurprising: I am pro choice, but I appreciate that Catholics also care about people after they are born. Same cannot be said for most conservative "Christian" politicians in the US who attack social safety nets and education. 010
Beth @beth-ccl.bsky.social · 16/04/2026Tax refunds are unlikely to make up for increased health insurance premiums nor any of the other things we have to buy ourselves that should be covered by taxes. (Like filing taxes- canning Direct Pay was an insult to Americans.) 010
Beth @beth-ccl.bsky.social · 15/04/2026Don't trust the pope. Trust a guy who is in an interracial interfaith marriage and had kids with his lawyer wife in his mid to late 30s then criticizes people who take advantage of those same social freedoms he's enjoyed. 000
Beth @beth-ccl.bsky.social · 15/04/2026This is prop 13 for NC, which has not been great for California. It shoots big counties who want to take care of their teachers and law enforcement and firefighters in the foot. It would be different if the state were doing its part. But it is not. 000
Beth @beth-ccl.bsky.social · 15/04/2026For once I agree with Vance: young people should not give up on political engagement. The moral arc of history won't bend toward justice on its own. 000
Beth @beth-ccl.bsky.social · 14/04/2026Unfortunately it doesn't even help that much. Independent contractors still have to pay the 15% self-employment tax on tips, doesn't help married filers unless they are well into their standard deduction. A few thousand for a single filer. Not nothing! But nowhere close to healthcare money. 110
Beth @beth-ccl.bsky.social · 14/04/2026The GOP really thinks the entire United States of abounds with jobs. Jobs far from cities are scarce and jobs in cities require transportation or more expensive housing nearby. A lot of low skilled jobs reject over qualified applicants. It is just not that simple to find a job. 110
Beth @beth-ccl.bsky.social · 13/04/2026Yes same!!! I really hope Massie or Paul take leadership of the GOP. I disagree with them on most issues but they are principled and we might go back to the McCain Obama days, which felt like two parties who wanted the best for the country but disagreed on the path. 000
Beth @beth-ccl.bsky.social · 13/04/2026Before DJT there used to be respectful discussions across the aisle. But he is so intolerable the left and the right have stopped talking and been filling in each others' views with social media and his posts, which are there to get engagement, not foster nuanced discussions. 100
Beth @beth-ccl.bsky.social · 13/04/2026Or put an antivaxxer in charge of DHS. Or put a drunk clown in charge of the military. Or purged the federal government of experts. I'm sure I'm forgetting a dozen scandals. 000
Beth @beth-ccl.bsky.social · 13/04/2026Or given Musk Americans' data. Or imposed tariffs. Or terrorized people for being Hispanic/working class. Or pardoned fraudsters and drug lords. Or enriched herself with crypto scams. Or bombed Venezuela. Or bombed Iran. Or asked blue states to gerrymander mid cycle and purge red states voter rolls. 100
Beth @beth-ccl.bsky.social · 13/04/2026Low- middle income people pay the same amount (higher %) for so many necessities (way more for gas, since electric cars and homes close to jobs are more $.) Marginal taxes are also poorly understood. Going $1 into a higher tax bracket doesn't mean you pay the higher percentage on all your income. 000
Beth @beth-ccl.bsky.social · 13/04/2026"Bad person" might be a reach but it is by far the easiest part of most jobs, so failing that bar isn't a good sign for a person's future as a productive member of society. 000
Beth @beth-ccl.bsky.social · 13/04/2026Ironically, he's had 6 years being in a position to "heal the sick" through healthcare reform and we've yet to see the "concept of a plan" he could have worked on in the 4 year gap. He did cut Medicaid though. 000
Beth @beth-ccl.bsky.social · 12/04/2026It would be nice if they would just do their jobs like Jeff Jackson does. 030
Beth @beth-ccl.bsky.social · 09/04/2026Imagine if before midterms in 2022, Biden asked blue states to gerrymander, or create a database he could use to purge voter rolls in any state he chose. 000
Beth @beth-ccl.bsky.social · 08/04/2026Why talk about the actual POTUS covering up sex crimes or threatening to blow up a country when the wife of a hypothetical presidential candidate made some cringey remarks 2 years ago? 000
Beth @beth-ccl.bsky.social · 08/04/2026Every politician I can remember has been mocked constantly for policies and personal traits alike. (W's accent, HRC's pantsuits...) None are as whiny about it as DJT. 000
Beth @beth-ccl.bsky.social · 07/04/2026Ad hominem... for when an argument is indefensible based on reason. 010
Beth @beth-ccl.bsky.social · 07/04/2026I was not a fan of the Iraq war in the early naughts but W got approval from congress and we knew the reason (WMDs). Then when those did not appear it shifted to "Iraqi freedom," not "Epic Fury." One pivot. A terrible waste of lives and resources but W followed the rules. 010
