Like, the very smart and senior football writer Oliver Kay bemoaning that football might change 😱 and subversivly blaming Arteta and Arsenal 🤣
It's been really open, expansive, risky football that we've seen in the recent years.
I don't get why people suggest otherwise.
The number of goals, the number of mistakes, the number of high turnovers, that shows that it's risky, it's attacking, it's creative.
What we're seeing this season is almost a reversion or a response to that. It's gone so far in one direction, it's going back in another direction, it's been direct football, there's been a lot of set pieces, a lot of long throws and a lot of really, really incredibly long stoppages. And I found it boring, to be honest.
I think this season has been a hard watch at times. What I would say is that these two teams, Liverpool and Manchester United, are not particularly of that kind of set piece fixated style. So maybe, and I'm not saying Manchester United are necessarily the most exciting watch these days, but it shouldn't be a game that's sort of punctuated by 60 second stoppages while they line up to take a corner.
