Scooby Doo meme where the ghost has his mask taken off and the man underneath is exposed. The ghost has the text "COPE is fighting for real solutions to the housing crisis" and the revealed man has the text "COPE voting no on the Villages Plan a month ago" overlaid.

Just ranting to the void now but it just feels wild to me that COPE is somehow trying to make falling asking rents a bad thing. It's a good thing!!! How is rent supposed to get cheaper (in real terms) if asking rent doesn't go down!!!!

Will Bernoudy @bernoudy.xyz · 12/09/2026
That being about as much as you could ask for in a city where everyone currently renting has their rent locked in (so e.g. people renting for 10+ years bring the average way down). The framing feels very disingenuous.

Will Bernoudy @bernoudy.xyz · 12/09/2026
My question was trying to point how it's problematic that COPE tried to make a "gotcha!" out of the fact that average rents still grew, even though the rate at which they grew was rapidly falling.

I won't pretend to have complete picture but I reckon the glut of condos that came on the market in that period was the main cause. Why do you ask?

Will Bernoudy @bernoudy.xyz · 12/09/2026
Crazy that the rate at which average rent is increasing per year went from $158 to $27 in the 2022-25 period in your table there. That can't have had anything to do with the asking rent falling, right?

Could this correlation partly be that "not a visible minority" people are more likely to fill out a niche urbanist website survey?

Going to just one of these and seeing the vindictive and vitriolic accusations hurled at the public servants simply trying to do their jobs in the most banal way was galvanizing for me. Can't let these people win

Fair, it's not like drinking more water and electrolytes is ever bad anyway! Enjoy the running.

Managing it became easier after that for me (basically if I'm cramping, back off immediately and recover).

Will Bernoudy @bernoudy.xyz · 19/07/2026
An interesting thing I learned a few years ago is that there is no quality science to back the idea that exercise induced cramping is caused by dehydration or lack of electrolytes. It's more likely to be fatigue and heat.

Totally. But speeding is not an accident either. Looking at your phone is not an accident. Rolling through a right turn on red is not an accident. Drivers will know if we hold them accountable for deaths caused by FSD, we could also hold them accountable for these choices.
110
Will Bernoudy @bernoudy.xyz · 22/06/2026
Isn't charging drivers for manslaughter already in the mostly impractical camp, whether they are using "FSD" or not? Drivers already kill people all the time and are rarely held accountable.

This is a lot more than I thought. And given that it is used at multiple steps, with each step using more than 1 H2O it's likely a large multiple per ATP. So probably much more than 5 kilos. Cool! I would guess that the ~3 liters of water we lose per day is mostly "created" in the body then.
010
Will Bernoudy @bernoudy.xyz · 29/05/2026
I did mean the question genuinely btw. I struggled to find any definitive source on how much water is used by the Krebs cycle/other hydration(?) reactions vs "passes through." I realized that analysis on water loss is more about how it leaves the body, not what it did while it was in there.

Will Bernoudy @bernoudy.xyz · 29/05/2026
Point taken. And I guess I don't want to encourage any theories of global electron shortages so I will opt for the undoubtedly more correct "consume electricity."
000
Will Bernoudy @bernoudy.xyz · 29/05/2026
I know, I was referring to evaporation loss from the skin and lungs. Are you saying that the majority of water exiting the body was at some point part of a chemical reaction?
110
Will Bernoudy @bernoudy.xyz · 28/05/2026
This is still a minor proportion of water loss. Wouldn't it be more correct to refer to it as "dirtying" instead "consuming" water? Or "dirtying with some evaporation and consuming/ reconstituting"?

Isn't the seat product SP equal to the reps per district * _total assembly size_ instead of total districts? Otherwise I would think the SP is just the same as assembly size, which would imply the electoral system doesn't have an effect and is less interesting.

Easy to claim your code was optimized if it started out wasteful and slow! (Not that that is necessarily bad)
000
Will Bernoudy @bernoudy.xyz · 25/03/2026
It certainly has a definition, I more meant as an adjective applied to code/libraries it tends to be rather meaningless. Optimized as in what, the author spent 10 minutes making this loop do fewer operations without benchmarking anything (and the compiler already found the optimization)?
