Worlds colliding as I hear about Scottish Universities Press progress at #OIPA2026 just after OASPA's interview with @gilliandaly.bsky.social published today. Great to have them on board!

Arrived in lovely Falmer for #OIPA2026 at the University of Sussex. Learning that the UK university press scene is established and emerging with (I think) ten new presses established since 2022.

Andrew Barker will not stagnate. He believes that the librarian's role is to lead, even though he acknowledges the easiest thing now would be to keep heads down. Speaking in this OA in Challenging Times session at #UPREDUX2026

Loving all the Irish language making its way into talks at #UPREDUX2026 today. Including this great acronym for the values of the library at @ucc.ie shared by @lizjolly.bsky.social . Cáirdeas (friendship).

Repellent it is. Saw the film Team America for the first time recently. Life imitating art imitating life ad infinitum. If they made a puppet of Trump though it could never be as grotesque as the real thing. Only glitch. "Epic Fury"?? WTAF? Grow up.

Catching up with @uksg.bsky.social webinar on AI /OA interface. Love this slide demonstrating how LLMs work. Heard it described before but this clarifies it. Everything Stephanie Decker is saying is helping me! Register free for the recording here - highly recommended www.uksg.org/events/free-...

Spotted Manchester airport. What problem do the people of Guernsey and Dubln have with hats and glasses, masks and headphones? They really, really want to see their visitors. Rest of the world, on you go...

Just seen this in the wonderful Hebden Bridge Picture House. I ADORED it. Marianne Jean-Baptiste is phenomenal. I could watch that acting all day. The whole cast were excellent. I was very moved by multiple scenes. I've seen most of Mike Leigh's films and I think this is some of his very best work.

Keep thinking #stormdarragh is moving on then I'm shook by the sound of it raging again. Safe and cosy in the caravan thus far in Connemara... Bloody loud though. And yes, that's how dark it is outside.

Stirring opening Keynote from Amina Shah, Librarian at National Library of Scotland. Lots of lovely poetry and images and a reminder that public libraries are democracy in action. #Redux2024

Calling University Press people! I'm convening a panel "What Libraries Want" at the #UniversityPress Redux conference in May. I'm keen to hear from those working in University Presses. If you are a Uni Press leader or staff member, please have a look. - forms.gle/QRyy8BorVqFa...

Hearing from Ana Heredia (Maverick Associates) here at the R2Rconf on local OA initiatives in Latin America. Some interesting facts and figures, including in the value of publishing outside of "prestige" journals.

Already had some interesting conversations and learned some new things here at R2Rconf happily. Now it's Kamran Naim of CERN talking us through ten years of SCOAP3 and what's next.

Good to be back at R2Rconf for another year and looks like a full house for the opening keynote by Antonia Seymour of IOP Publishing. Refreshingly honest about learning how to be a leader. And how much working life has changed.
