Nothing against power grid interties, in fact they're needed, but with the Alberta west coast pipeline deal coming soon it's fair to say we're seeing a pattern of the Carney gov timing electricity updates with pipeline updates - presumably flooding the zone to mitigate blow back.

I swear maybe once a decade in public, and this is the moment. This fucking racist and all the gibbering racists nodding along behind him are the ruination of our country. Our fucking job for the next fucking year is to fucking destroy them in the next election. Fuck them.

This gets to the heart of it: who cares if we win, politically, if more people suffer from the material consequences of this government's strategy? Uniting the country and losing the momentum for strong protections is the definition of a Pyrrhic victory.

The crux of my disagreement with Max is that Carney's smart for "placing all of his government’s climate bets on [...] markets." The argument for shrewdness is only good if the role of the state is to get out of the way. Which... it isn't.

The federal-AB agreement is a love letter to fossil fuels -cancelation of critical policies (OG emissions cap & clean electricity rules) -public $$ for a pipeline (via Indigenous loan program) -more $$ for CCS, incl. enhanced oil production - only mention of electricity is for fossil fuels

In case anyone is wondering, “decarbonized oil and gas” does not exist, is a complete contradiction in terms, and a dangerous lie that Canadian government after Canadian government has tried to spin under the spell of industry lobbying. How disappointing. www.ft.com/content/17ce...

Amid Donald Trump’s trade war, many have argued for more pipelines to reduce our reliance on the U.S. market – even federal Liberal cabinet ministers

- Face the facts that gas companies have to transform their business model and plan for infrastructure decommissioning; - Divest from gas companies that refuse to align with scientifically credible decarbonization plans. Basically: pension managers need to do their due diligence.

Bernard Soubry @bernardsoubry.com · 15/01/2025
So--what should pension funds do if they want to keep making money and help the energy transition? We have four ideas: - Tell the gas companies they co-own to stop investing in gas and H2 infrastructure; - Tell their beneficiaries how much they've invested in gas companies;

Gas needs to be phased out, and there's no viable path for hydrogen to save gas infrastructure. Arguing otherwise gaslights (ugh) pension funds into thinking their investments(read: your retirement funds) are safe. They're not.

Bernard Soubry @bernardsoubry.com · 15/01/2025
Before the H2 bros come at me: sure, there are really good industrial applications for green hydrogen! But this isn't what we're talking about. Gas utilities are arguing they can transform existing infrastructure to create H2 networks and keep their status quo going. This is magical thinking.

Bernard Soubry @bernardsoubry.com · 15/01/2025
Hydrogen is the Swiss army knife of the energy transition: theoretically, it can do a lot, but practically, it kind of sucks. - H2 cars are dead - It's the most expensive way to heat a house (incl. gas!) - It loses a tonne of energy the minute you try to transport it anywhere So, not a solution.

Bernard Soubry @bernardsoubry.com · 15/01/2025
Gas is a high-risk investment as the energy transition accelerates worldwide. Gas utilities are scared of this, so lots are invoking a silver bullet: use hydrogen to decarbonize! If we pump clean H2 into gas pipelines, we save the bottom line AND go green. Right? If wishing made it so!

The saltiness of your salt will vary depending on the type, so it's worth experimenting a bit! A good gauge is just to taste the cabbage to see if it's salty. Pleasantly salty=probably fine; face scrunched up=too much salt. Hope this helps!
110
Bernard Soubry @bernardsoubry.com · 11/01/2025
Long time fermenter here! I usually go for 2% salt per weight of cabbage (eg, I have 2 kg of cabbage => I put 20g of kosher salt), give it a good massage, wait an hour or two once it's packed into a jar and then top it up with a 2% salt solution. The amount of water will depend on the cabbage.
