If we gave 1/2 of their $, still leaving them incredibly rich, to the bottom 50%, increasing their standard of living by 50%, & this country would be a much happier and healthier place. Obviously it’s not quite that simple, but the idea stands – we need some sort of wealth tax.

One of the many reasons David Lynch was so great - no irony. He loved Americana, his coffee, apple pie & Bob’s Big Boy. I’m guessing 1 of his biggest influences was Douglas Sirk, who is high camp to modern eyes, but you can tell Sirk loved his mis en scene. Lynch’s films are love letters.

Learned it from the most recent episode of the world’s best podcast: A History of Rock & Roll in 500 songs. If u start from the beginning, the first 50 episodes are a bit of a slog - check out the Velvets episode, or the recent 4-parter on Sympathy for the Devil. Fascinating!
