Thank you. It really sucks. But at least he went on his own terms and didn’t suffer. And he’s liberated from that awful disease. So for that, I’m grateful.

Thank you! Isn’t it just? So pleased with it.

It’s been a crappy few days. My dad died on Friday night and while I’m relieved that he’s no longer suffering, I’m still very sad. But the arrival of my hardback made me smile!

Touched by Light sees Peryst and baby Maia on the run from the Hand of Reason. Rule of Reason isn’t about Maia but about her brother Raf reared as a faithful son of the cruel regime. You’ll have to wait till Shadow of the Hand to meet Maia again. linktr.ee/HandofReason...

Fantastic panel on worldbuilding organised by Spotlight Indie. So interesting and so much fun to talk to Alex, Adam, and Karl, who are as deep into maps, lore, and background as I am!

When writing’s in your soul, you write everywhere and on anything. I’ve got notes on my phone, files on my laptop, descriptions on post-it’s, character names on old envelopes, and voice notes with detailed scenes. I can’t help it! #booksky

We’ve been moved to room 444. Same green chair. I figure it’s where the baby demons hang out before they get old enough for room 666. Hospitals try to cure sick people and make non-sick ones slowly unwrangle. This is me unwrangling. Is that even a word?

So today was on the green chair. Every hospital has that green chair and I hate it so much. I talked to mum, talked to doctors, asked questions, and then asked some more. In between, I edited, I checked formatting, and I watched the monitors and hoped for the best. Sigh.

Sometimes when you’re writing you picture things clearly. Other times, it takes someone else to make your words real. Jonas and Becky did that in different ways! #booksky

Drove back early from the Milford Critique Week. Very sad. Nightmare trip with M1 closed and torrential rain. I’m not superstitious BUT first a rainbow split in two by a long cloud. Then a double rainbow and THEN a huge moon alongside a rainbow. If that’s not auspicious then I don’t know what is?!

At Milford Critique Week at the Gladstone Library with incredible writers and lovely people!

So I’m getting ready to travel to Wales, to the Gladstone Library. It’ll be my first time at the Milford Critique week. I’m both excited and terrified. And have loaded up on chocolate. It’s a thing! #booksky

So far September is a mess. I was meant to have finished re-editing Shadow of the Hand and sent it back for a proofread. And checked the ebook novella for A Meeting of Minds and A Daughter’s Duty. I’ve done none of that. BUT I went to see my dad. That was good. And read a lot of good stuff. #booksky

Back at the airport. Will I get out or will I spend the morning typing away at random gates assigned and reassigned? I’m starting to feel like that Argentinian film of the 80s - Möbius Strip - where a tube train’s tracks shift into a Möbius strip and the passengers go round in an interminable loop!

000

Berna Hudson @bernahudson.bsky.social · 09/09/2026

In my eight-hour airport disaster yesterday, I had a good book. So life wasn’t that bad. And I edited book 3. And ranted. And ate chocolate. A g&t would have helped more, probably. But I’m still stuck and missed what I was going for. Sigh. #booksky

Got caught in the air traffic fiasco yesterday. Was lucky I had a home to get back to, but missed something important. The best laid plans… Trying to leave again tomorrow. May the gods of air traffic be merciful.

After reading a New Yorker article I did a blind apple tasting once when I was in the US. The best in show was the Sweetango for the crunch and burst. Did it again in the UK and it was a tie between Discovery and Jazz. But it depends on the mood. There’s an Apple for every moment…

Just added 2 more artists to #HHA HireHumanArtists.com I think I'd like to try something. Our leatherworking category is... Pretty empty. Save for one person. I'd like to open apps up to ONLY leatherworkers to fill that category. If this is you, reply here (or tag your leatherworking friends in)

I’ve never managed to master scrivener. I’m sure it would make everything easier but the time I’d have to invest in figuring it out makes me not want to do it.

I LOVE maps. Did you know that Ursula Leguin started her books with the map - sometimes never shared - and wrote ‘to the map’…?

Excellent notion. Again, not tied to genre…

So I’m home after visiting my parents. I purposely only took my laptop…to edit, and the ebook to read up on the submissions for a critique week I’m attending. I came back with seven new books. As if my TBR wasn’t TALL enough… #booksky
