💙 I am an Artist, hand spin yarn, raise Indian Fantail pigeons, have turkeys, goats, and love my cats. Bergere is a very old French word for shepherdess, my nickname from back when I raised sheep. 🐑 🧶 🐐🐈‍⬛ 🏳️‍🌈🏳️‍⚧️ Ally 🚫m*ga

I have become spoiled to how soft the Merino/Alpaca is. Decided to finish up with the Corriedale Purple People Eater roving and its no where near as soft. Once I am done with this, back to the variegated yellow Merino/Alpaca sliver I go.

Let the turkeys out this morning to putter around and eat grass and seeds. Not something I normally do. Goats and Turkeys were not sure about each other at first. Drummer is a really good father and great with his offspring.

The Merino/Alpaca roving arrived, as well as the Frost roving with the same ratio of Merino/Alpaca. Deciding if I should put my Purple People Eater colorway to the side and continuing making yarn for my future sweater? I have enough bobbins that it isn't an issue.
I could dye this but I am not minding the white next to the variegated yellow.
Need to start looking for a easy to make sweater pattern at some point. While the variegated yellow is close its not quite the same color as my original roving but it should do.

Going from an old fashioned wooden yard stick to this, is pure heaven. I highly recommend it.

Luckily managed to find more of the yellow Roving with the correct ratio of merino/alpaca. Also bought some frost color with the same ratio . Figured I could do a small collar pattern with it. While I wait until it arrives, decided to spin up the rest of my Corriedale purple people eater color.

Question for all you Fiber folks~ Spun the variegated yellow Merino-Alpaca into yarn but not enough to make a sweater. Have Merino only roving, would it be compatible? Or should I get some more Merino-alpaca roving? I can not get the exact same color, so what other colors would you recommend?

Need a break from spinning the variegated yellow Merino/Alpaca. Only have a little bit left of the Corriedale Purple People Eater, Dream solid blue which is Merino so might do well with the yellow yarn I already spun if I made a sweater out of both and the variegated Corriedale.. Choices, choices..

2nd Skein of yarn off the bobbin and put through the EEW yard counter. This one is only 1339 yards, add the 1414 of the other skein= 2,753 yards and its still not enough to make a sweater with. I have a little more of this roving but I originally wanted to mix the soy roving I have with it.
Tie off my skeins with odds and end yarn left overs, helps keep the skein from being a tangled mess. I am really liking the EEW yarn Counter, is a lot easier than using a wooden yard stick! My odds and ends bobbin, comes in handy for tying skeins of yarn, tying up tomato plants, etc.

I am not seeing as many hand spinners of yarn here as I used to. I hope everyone is okay!

Got the first skein washed and now hanging to set and dry. I do not do this with every skein but this one needed it. Will straighten out more when dry. Looks like spun straw. VBG

Finally have the two jumbo bobbins done with two ply Merino-Alpaca yarn. First time using the yarn counter, 20 WPI and if the EEW Yarn Counter is accurate, that is a lot of yarn, approx. 1414 yards for this bobbin alone. This is a long post in 3 parts.
EEW Yarn Counter- First time using it. Two Majacraft Jumbo Bobbins of 20 WPI Merino Alpaca 2 ply yarn. Had to figure out a way to get the yarn from my Bobbin, through the Yarn Counter to my Wheel. Used the moveable table I have for my laptop.

Spinning most evenings so I can finish up what roving I have left and continue to add to the big bobbin at the top. Once that is done with use my skein winder and measure it out to see how many yards I have. Really need to do some maintenance on my wheel before I start anything else.

First year I did not grow lettuce, peppers and Swiss chard in the house during the summer. Of course, this is the year of massive recalls. So, I started some of my veggies and will have some to eat in a couple of weeks.

Have been plying this batch of singles. I should have weighed the bobbins to make sure they were equal but did not. I have a little more roving, so back to making singles on the empty bobbin. I am very glad spinning yarn is so forgiving. Can see a little bit of Mia in one photo.
Whoops.....
Both Bobbins should have nearly equal amounts of single ply.
Back to weighing the bobbins next time.

Yesterday was a good day to hand spin some yarn. Two ply Alpaca Merino yarn, some of the thinnest I have spun. Tried to take a photo of the sheets of rain coming down hard on the window, was wild at times.

Rose's walk this morning, with one of her new coats. Had to turn this one inside out because her fur is super soft, and slick, it stays on better this way. Wish I was up to knitting a sweater for her. Rose is older, I have to take her for walks because of her megacolon and arthritis.

Slowly getting the hay shed re-stained and ready for winter. Almost done with the back of the shed. Photos are of before, during and after. Once I get this finished will be able to get back to hand spinning yarn.
Before re-stainingHalf way done on the lower part. Is wild how the color seems to change depending on the lighting. Just have the upper eave to do but I will have to bring out the larger ladder.

I know I haven't been as active on here lately. Summer tends to get in the way of hand spinning yarn. Mowing, animal care, repairs, PT, re-staining sheds and so on. Slowly matching the amount of single yarn I have in the other bobbin. Once that is done, will ply and use my new yarn counter.
Variegated yellow Merino Alpaca singles, to be spun into a 2ply at a later date. Always some maintenance to be done, here I am working on re-staining the hay shed.

Decided I was going to do some archery this morning, chores could wait. I have missed this a lot. Damaged an arrow but at least I did not Robin hood it this time. LOL Really need to get a holder for the iphone so I can get better photos. Hoping to be able to spin some yarn later.
Just trying to balance everything for the photo.
Impossible to draw the bow this way.Could of been worse, though it now flies awkward.Old photo from a couple of years ago.
DH went out later and leveled the target.

On Rose's morning walk, she let me know there is a cardinal family living in the out of control native grape vine. I seriously need to put up a triple cattle panel fence arch up before this grape vine takes over the world. LOL... Native honeysuckles that the hummingbirds love.

Way behind on mowing and can only do it in the morning after I take Rose for her walk. The heat and humidity makes it tough to do outside chores. Late blooming Crepe myrtles, we have had so much rain they are bending down. First time they have bloomed this late in the season.

Sorry I have not posted in awhile. Still fighting with my ankle, hip, etc. The special brace finally came in, and hope it gets the stress fracture on my ankle to heal. Meanwhile, I keep staring at my spinning wheel.

Despite my messed up right leg, decided to hand spin some yarn this rainy morning. Bought a new sofa, very firm seat but soft at the same time, perfect for spinning. Covered to help keep the cat hair off. Mia approves.

After 27+ years I had to do a little maintenance on my Majacraft Saxonie. The baring on the Mother of All, holding the Maidens and Flier had come lose and no longer seated like it should be. Took a little tapping to get the baring back in and adjusted and tightened everything else.
Washer to hold everything together.Baring is lose and not where it should be. Baring back where it will do its job and everything else tightened up.
