What binds Míriel and Elendil to each other is a shared sense of faith, in Númenor and it's history, it's ties to the elves, and their belief that it will eventually lead to a better path for Númenor. #mirielweek #theringsofpower #elendil

Season 1 Episode 4, Miriel saying "Faith may bind one heart, galadriel", after galadriel has looked into the palantir.

Season 2 episode 6, miriel visits elendil in prison and says "what of my heart?"

We get a sense of that change in her in Season 2. Although she continues to face more tribulations, she faces them with purpose. She knows how she must lead; not out of fear, but through courage. ‘Courage is found in unlikely places,’ - Bk1, Ch4, The Fellowship of the Ring. /7

In season 2 episode 6, Miriel volunteers to take the place of Elendil in the Sea Trial, saying "If we are to walk the path of the faithful..."

continuing from previous image, miriel says "it must be me who takes the first step".

But since having touched the darkness, she now knows what lights to follow, and knows the truth of what it means to be Faithful. Her conviction is set. "Come what may." "...though they know that they can only come to morning through the shadows." - Bk4 ChII The Two Towers. /6

"Sometimes we cannot know until we have touched the darkness." Míriel's expedition ends in disaster; she found the darkness she was warned of. She lost her eyesight, she lost her father and eventually even lost her kingdom, usurped by her cousin Pharazôn. Loss after loss. /5

in Season 1 Episode 5, Tar-Palantir tells miriel that what awaits her in Middle-earth is "darkness".

in season 1 episode 7, Miriel, riding back to the numenorean encampment on a horse, accompanied by Valandil and Elendil, says "only gray", hinting at her having gone blind.

I've discussed before how the sign of the fallings leaves could have been misinterpreted. Either way, this ties into 'reflected light' being misguidance. Decisions made out of fear are not true guidance. So how to find the true light to follow? /4

One could argue that she makes the decision to go to Middle-earth out of fear, once she sees the leaves of Nimloth falling at the end of Episode 4. She does this not because she knows it is the right thing to do, but because she interprets the sign as telling her to do so. /3

Queen Miriel voiceover "The Faithful believe when the petals of the White Tree fall"...as Miriel and Pharazon (in background) stand as they notice the leaves of the white tree of nimloth fall.

continues from previous image, "a living reminder that their eyes and their judgement are ever upon us". as we cut to Numenoreans in the shipyard or docks also noticing the falling leaves.

When we first meet Míriel, she is ruling Númenor, with Pharazôn as her advisor, trying to keep a steady peace between the Faithful of Númenor, and those who are not. Galadriel calls her out for ruling out of fear. We can view this as Míriel following the reflected light. /2

Rings of Power Season 1 Episode 3: Miriel stands at the throne, as Galadriel and Halbrand enter.

Season 2 Episode 8, Miriel stands before Pharazon in the numenorean throne hall, with her hands cuffed, as Belzagar reads a proclamation, likely charging her with some "crime".

"Has then Sauron become King of Númenor" - The People's of Middle-earth.

Then darkness came upon the minds of the Numenoreans, and they held the Guardians in hatred, and openly denied the One who is above all; and they turned to the worship of the Dark, and of Morgoth the Lord of the Darkness. They made a great temple in the land and there did evil; for they tormented the remnant of the faithful, and there slew them or burned
them. And the like they did in Middle-earth, and filled the west coasts with tales of dread, so that men cried 'Has then Sauron become King of Numenor?'

A bit delayed, but I'm going to catch up on this starting today. Day 1: Favourite Númenorean: It was a difficult choice, but it has to be Queen Míriel, as seen in The Rings of Power. It has been awesome to see her character given more depth in the show. #Numentober #Numenor #TROPsky #Numenation

This was another moment of a Tolkienian chance meeting introduced in the show, and I think it's a great one. As we know, Elendil ends up being one of Sauron's chief adversaries, and even 3000 years later in the Third Age, just the idea of the "Heir of Elendil" strikes fear within Sauron. /2

*neighs* It's not like Empire to dabble in rumours... 👀

Back in February, we learned that Stranger Things' Vecna, Jamie Campbell Bower, is heading to Middle-earth for Season 3 alongside Eddie Marsan, with rumours abound that the former could be taking on the role of Galadriel's as-yet-unseen husband Celeborn and the latter the brother of Owain Arthur's dwarf Durin. As for who'll be joining them, that much remains to be seen. As of right now, we don't even have confirmation of Charlie Vickers, Morfydd Clark, and Robert Aramayo's returns as Sauron, Galadriel, and Elrond just yet — though we'd be very surprised if they suddenly disappeared, what with the war and everything going on. With cameras now rolling, here's hoping The Rings Of Power Season 3 might be on our screens sometime in 2026. We wants it preciousss... we needs it precioussssss.
