Beowulf @beowulf703.bsky.social · 08/10/2026Both things can be true. Many people are choosing not to have kids because it's financially hard or impossible, and many people have personal reasons. Many women have reasons that are specific to their experiences, and that's valid, too. 040
Beowulf @beowulf703.bsky.social · 18/09/2026I just finished reading "The Brothers" about John Foster Dulles and his brother Allen Dulles, and this resonates heavily. 030

Beowulf @beowulf703.bsky.social · 13/08/2026Many people mock the cult around The Art of War (and rightly so), but most of it is logistics. It was aimed at princes who wanted to play war and act macho without an understanding of how wars are actually fought. No modern comparisons, though, none at all! 000

Beowulf @beowulf703.bsky.social · 06/05/2026Yes, this is the biggest problem with AI. Those darn McCarthyites, trying to detect AI! 120
Beowulf @beowulf703.bsky.social · 29/04/2026That's one of the things I appreciate about your account, so thanks! 010
Beowulf @beowulf703.bsky.social · 29/04/2026Agreed, my general thought is that local elections are important; I only donate time/money to them. I don't contribute to presidential, U.S. Senate, or gubernatorial campaigns, because my efforts go way further in local elections. The big ones don't need my help & if they do, they're a loss anyway. 110
Beowulf @beowulf703.bsky.social · 29/04/2026I agree, but what do we do with candidates who don't have a shot at all? My general feeling is "support the candidate who is most like me" during the primary, but I have to admit I do consider whether that candidate can win said primary (forget about general for now). Kat's campaign was good, tho! 100

Beowulf @beowulf703.bsky.social · 01/04/2026Are you referring to Harriet Miers? Because she was woefully unqualified and unprepared. Republicans do hate women, obviously, but she was a disaster. 020
Beowulf @beowulf703.bsky.social · 06/03/2026Nice use of passive voice, too. Darn those slurs, finding their way into the otherwise pure and respectable Republican Party chat! /s 11082

Beowulf @beowulf703.bsky.social · 15/01/2026Well, trying harder to avoid hurting people is such a big ask... I hate this timeline. 020
Beowulf @beowulf703.bsky.social · 12/01/2026It's not the main point I know, but I hate passive voice. The situation didn't turn deadly all by itself; an agent shot a civilian multiple times in the face. He was in fear for his life, he was in fear for those around him, but then all of a sudden, the situation turned deadly? No. 000
Beowulf @beowulf703.bsky.social · 08/01/2026I have this frustration as well, but I know I tend towards this tendency myself. It's mostly the former... and then I see what's happening, and I swing towards the latter. But I know it's not that simple either way. 000
Beowulf @beowulf703.bsky.social · 01/01/2026People like that have never and will never apologize or even acknowledge any wrongdoing or misplaced trust. They'll just ignore and move on like they always do. They'll (accurately) count on our collective goldfish memory and tendency not to rock the boat. Just another "shrug, oh well!" 081

Beowulf @beowulf703.bsky.social · 05/11/2025For those who don't know: Dave Brat beat Eric Cantor in a primary in 2014 but was then later defeated in 2018 by... Abigail Spanberger. 030
Beowulf @beowulf703.bsky.social · 03/11/2025Why would you say something so controversial and yet so brave? 020
Beowulf @beowulf703.bsky.social · 15/10/2025Both sides are so compelling, I don't know who to believe! We should hear from every corner before we make a decision. 110

Beowulf @beowulf703.bsky.social · 22/09/2025That sounds horrible and solidifies my decision to leave. I'm grateful you're keeping an eye on these lunatics because I don't have the stamina to do so. 010

Beowulf @beowulf703.bsky.social · 22/08/2025Those are all excellent. I'd also add: -more gerrymandering in Dem's favor -abolish the Electoral College -abolish the Senate -expand the House -ranked choice voting A boy can dream, right? 070
Beowulf @beowulf703.bsky.social · 19/08/2025A wannabe authoritarian uses unfounded crime concerns as a pretext to take over a capital city. Liberals point out that weapons are dangerous and other developed countries have reasonable laws and fewer problems with said dangerous weapons. These things seem the same to me; I am very smart. 060
Beowulf @beowulf703.bsky.social · 18/08/2025I don't understand why anyone is acting like "their" candidate is inevitable at this point. Putting aside parasocial relationships (which are weird), why are so many eager to anoint someone who alienates the left at the drop of a hat? No faith in anything other than moderate nonsense that has failed 170
Beowulf @beowulf703.bsky.social · 14/08/2025Not necessarily, no. She was a worse candidate just going by results, but Bill was bad, too: Don't ask don't tell, NAFTA, welfare reform, deficit reduction by cutting programs, the crime bill that worsened the police state and whose one good thing (the assault weapons ban) expired... not great 000
Beowulf @beowulf703.bsky.social · 14/08/2025Hillary engaged in racist rhetoric against "super predators," was hawkish enough to make John McCain blush, had proxies use racist attacks against Obama, and was a black hole of charisma whose message was essentially that she deserved it and anyone who disagreed should be crushed. 110
Beowulf @beowulf703.bsky.social · 14/08/2025Well, misogyny was certainly a huge factor, but it wasn't the only one. Same with Kamala. Just chalking it up to one factor is overlooking the candidate's weaknesses. 100
Beowulf @beowulf703.bsky.social · 14/08/2025I hear you, but I don't get what's so great about Hillary. What leftist (or even adjacent) project has she advanced? How are her politics substantially different from Bill's? Personally, she is less problematic yet less charismatic and lost a primary then a general. At least Bill won twice! 110
Beowulf @beowulf703.bsky.social · 11/08/2025Petty grievances, exerting control, Wilhoit's law, things of this nature 000
Beowulf @beowulf703.bsky.social · 28/07/2025I'm saying that for many people, leaving is just not an option at all. Money is a big reason, and starting over in a new country is just generally extremely difficult. Plus, if good people leave, then mostly bad people will be left and they'll make the problems worse. 110
