And so I have a difficult ask. If you can swing it, please consider chipping in to my tip jar to help with these bills so that the stability I'm so close to regaining isn't ripped out from under me. It's hard for me to post this, but I'd appreciate the support. ko-fi.com/benzj/goal?g=0 /7

But that creates one more hurdle: the first payments on the eviction settlement are due in short order starting around the end of the month, and coming up short means I'll just be evicted. Getting the job is important, but that's not going to take care of things right away. 6/

Last week, I finally landed a new job, which helps to make the path forward a little clearer. It's similar to my previous job, which could prove a challenge later, but when you're as far off the edge of the cliff as I am at the moment, you'll take the hand given to you. 5/

I was ultimately unemployed for eight months and have been brought to the brink on both my personal finances and my bills. On top of lots of overdue bills, I've been battling an eviction; I agreed to a settlement, even though it wasn't clear how I'd be able to keep to it. 4/

Unfortunately, outside of being back on air, positives have been hard to come by. Back in May, I lost my job. It wasn't the worst thing; that role was taking a toll on my productivity both at work and outside it. But my hopes to find something better didn't exactly pan out. 3/

On the plus side, I've gotten back on the radio, serving up two shows a week @benzjfm.bsky.social; that returns starting January 26. As much as it felt like I was devoting six days a week to radio at times, it's also brought some genuinely great moments that I wouldn't change for anything. 2/

So where exactly have I been the last twelve months? Yes, it's been that long since I've posted a video. It's not like I was intending to take a year away from making videos, but there were a lot of other things going on in my life that have led to such an extended hiatus. 🧵1/

Willem Dafoe speaking truth in this interview with @mattzollerseitz.bsky.social www.vulture.com/article/will...

question: I feel like the relationship of the audience to movies has changed in the past ten or 15 years. They expect the movie to come to them.

answer: Absolutely. They’d rather go home and turn on their TV and see a film that way. And let’s face it, a certain kind of corruption comes in because people go home and they shop around on these streaming platforms. There’s some good things about the platforms. They create a lot of movies. They create a lot of jobs. But there’s so many distractions that you can’t enter the stuff. People watch five minutes of something and they say, “I’m not really into it” and they go to another thing. “I’m not really into it.” Then another thing. “I’m not really into it.” Then they go to bed.

If you don’t put in the effort, you’re not going to receive much. And the discourse gets lowered, and everything gets a little more dumbed down and then that’s when the ruffians come in, and they’re the ones with energy and stupidity and then they can crush all the thoughtful people. That’s not good for culture, and that’s not good for humanity. We see the results of that all the time.

The nostalgia you're chasing isn't there anymore. The warm glow of a crt in a dimly lit den isn't the thing your heart is missing-- It's the simplicity of not having to worry. The ability to invest your time in the things you love without guilt. When the weight of shared burdens wasn't as heavy.
