Some may recall the great run we had with my 'lit rag' Shadows and Tall Trees. A Shirley Jackson win, several stories reprinted in "Best Of's. Our new lit rag, Pale Grey Idol, harkens back to that aesthetic. 100 pages at 5" x 8". A little gem of dark wonders.
Covers to Issue Zero of Pale Grey Idol, and issues 1 thru 5 of Shadows & Tall Trees.

Julio Cortazar’s astonishing ‘Axolotl’…. ‘There was a time when I thought a great deal about the axolotls. I went to see them in the aquarium at the Jardin des Plantes and stayed for hours watching them, observing their immobility, their faint movements. Now I am an axolotl.’

I crowdsourced and then finalized this document "How to disable or avoid intrusive AI" and then gave it a short URL: notoai.org Please pass along if it's useful

My story ‘Unhomely’ is included in the new issue of Interzone, alongside some brilliant writers. A funny one this (funny peculiar, not funny ha ha). I took an aside by Freud in his essay ‘Das Unheimliche’, in which he describes reading a ‘thoroughly silly story’ in the Strand Magazine, as a prompt….

Any writers currently feeling less than productive can thank themselves they're not in the shoes of pulp author Alfred J Burks, who at his peak in the 1930s set himself a target to write 18,000 words a day. A day.

The cover of ‘Paradise’ by Ben Tufnell, depicting a dense forest'An unsettling novel of juxtapositions and surprises, Paradise moves between city and forest, bringing both to teeming, violent life. Tufnell creates landscapes that work upon us on the deepest level.'
- Aliya Whiteley,
author of The Beauty and Skyward Inn'A powerful novel of psychogeography set between two landscapes, urban and rural, in a world palpably on the brink of collapse.
Febrile with paranoia and alienation, Paradise confronts the crucial, intimate matter of our time: how 'to be' at the end of all things.'
- Charlotte Tierney, author of The Cat Bride'Paradise begins as an engrossing neo-noir before pivoting into something considerably stranger, in a manner that recalls a peculiar array of other works: Ben Wheatley's Kill List, Neil Jordan's The Crying Game, Michael Ende's children's novel Momo. A Kafkaeseque end-times parable of acceleration and collapse, violence and repair, it is a resonant page-turner fit for the Capitaloscene. '
