Ben @benpickering.bsky.social · 21/06/2025Still, a little worried by the explicit promise to build a hyper-targeted interactive indoctrination machine 061
Ben @benpickering.bsky.social · 15/06/2025A question of use cases, I suppose. One might not use the on-device LLM for AAA creative, user-interactive chat, but it's perfect for analysing text (user-provided, from the web, etc) or other data and working out how the app should handle it. Devs can build things they wouldn't otherwise be able to 000
Ben @benpickering.bsky.social · 15/06/2025@mgsiegler.com I don't think I've read anything in your WWDC writings about iPhone developers being able to access the on-device LLM model. It seems pretty huge and will enable all sorts of new app features. Do you have a take? Is Siri the only AI win that matters? 100

Ben @benpickering.bsky.social · 09/06/2025I don't know whether the prior iterations on multitasking are admirable in that they stuck with trying for so long, or whether they just denied the inevitable far too long 010
Ben @benpickering.bsky.social · 09/06/2025Does help to have a way to explain to your boss why you took the decision you did. Saying "it wasn't important so I vibe-decided" doesn't often cut it 010
Ben @benpickering.bsky.social · 08/06/2025Not going to walk around outside with it - dorky. Not going to spend prolonged periods sitting at work with it - uncomfortable. Not going to ignore my family at home with it - antisocial. When am I supposed to be using it? 010

Ben @benpickering.bsky.social · 22/05/2025Could it be that the device does have a screen, but that interactions never *start* from the screen? This would address the social media addiction issue. Doomscrolling is impossible without the timeline as a starting point. 000
Ben @benpickering.bsky.social · 22/05/2025@mgsiegler.com I'm beyond fascinated by the idea of a screenless AI device. It feels to me that the use case pattern of "summarise options 1,2,3 and let me pick" is so fundamental to such a broad range of interactions that it just *has* to have a screen! Very excited to see how I'm wrong 🤣 100

Ben @benpickering.bsky.social · 20/05/2025Maybe I'm getting old but all this seems like the same AI *wow* repeated over and over. Five ways to do deep research. Five ways to use personal context. Five ways to generate media, code or simulations. Five ways to invoke an agent. It's very on-brand for Google of course, but I'm lost! 010
