Poignant that Navi Pillay was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize while she was in the hallowed site where the 1945-1946 Nuremberg Tribunal took place. Now, with the institutions & the very idea of international justice threatened, the prize sends a vital message that hope can prevail.

The commonly used Mercator map inaccurately shrinks the size of Africa. African countries have just organised a vote at the UN for a shift to an accurate map instead. These was the tally of votes. Can you guess who voted against?

He’s right, and it’s great to see a major British leader say it. Part of getting Northern Ireland’s Protestant communities ready for inevitable change is saying it out loud. More political, faith, cultural and community leaders need to do so.

This kind of message discipline is rare & special. This vid was made by mazemoore to criticise Bernie but honestly it slaps. He kept on highlighting the harm caused by intensification of oligarchy, &, at last, what was once “left field” is now central to the public conversation.

These can feel like desperate times - literally, times of despair. But I insist on hope. At the end of this conversation with Dave Gill on Causes Show (📺 www.causes.show/episodes/ben...) I tried to set out in two minutes a case for hope. Do you agree? What would you add?

Transformational political shifts don’t start with a new policy, they start with a new story. ODI Global’s Kathryn Nwajiaku-Dahou asked me to summarise how narratives have set the contours of politics in the past 80 years - in two minutes! Did I manage it? My answer is here:

Europe is gonna stand up for Oman against this threat any moment now. Any moment now. It’s coming. Of course they will defend international law. Just wait. Wait, it’s coming. Don’t rush them they are getting ready.

Compare *this* 2007 Telegraph piece that declares: “Too many journalists & scientists built careers on the global-warming alarm. Certain newspapers staked their reputation on it. The death of this theory will be painful & ugly. But it will die. Because it is wrong, wrong, wrong.”

How do organisations working to advance international cooperation need to change the way they work so they’ll be able to win the battle of narratives? Below are Kathryn Nwajiaku-Dahou’s question to me on this & my answer. Would love to hear your thoughts on what you think is needed. @odi.global

This politician in Canada used ChatGPT to write his speech and then just directly read out loud the AI prompt without realising it, announcing to legislators “Here's a more natural, flowing version of that section that reads like a legislative speech rather than a series of short points." Glorious!

When countries face an extraordinary emergency, other countries have a role in support. Strengthening cooperation isn’t about dividing the world into “donors” & “recipients” - it’s about building a system to which everyone contributes & from which everyone benefits. Watch Canada thank Mexico:
