My feelings agree 100%. But realistically this would put a financial incentive to be dishonest in the AI disclosure/rating.

I agree with you, and I have no intentions of ever commercializing vibe-coded software. But that doesn't remove the incentive in general. If we demand that no AI is used ever in any form of commercial software, then people will just use it without disclosure.

Yep. That's one of the reasons I suggest open source being a necessity. That way Claude or whatever can update the repo with a technical description of changes so your life is a little bit less miserable if you're hired to fix its hallucinations.

82% of electronics are tested in China. I'm the first person to tell you that safety testing in an adversarial nation is a problem, but banning it with no alternative certification path will just immediately result in a massive increase of untested gray-market imports and "DIY kits".

I found some JS8Call and DECT signals, and people seem to be talking about soccer and vulgarly joking about the plague and ineptitude of the Russian government. This is a relief as all of this would be jammed if there was some type of mass quarantine or information blockade.

I'm recommending general safety precautions in parity with what FEMA urges the general public to do. I feel like people on here are just looking to take a side for the sake of it. If me being concerned about a concerning thing is annoying you, just mute the thread.

I don't speak Russian, so this is either a Siberian military dispatcher announcing the arrival of a zombie-variant of the plague or a mom talking next to a baby monitor.

I found an open web portal to control an SDR in Irkutsk, Siberia. The FT8 traffic is some of the busiest I've ever seen, with loads of callsigns in the immediate region. This tells us nothing about the plague situation😂but what a fun and lucky find. Onward to see if I can find unencrypted comms.

Benn Jordan @bennjordan.bsky.social · 06/10/2026
Yes. There have also been chimera-variants of pneumonic plague developed as bioweapons in Siberia. This would be different if the case was coming from a chef in Uganda. But it's coming from an employee of a "plague facility". I don't think anyone is dumb to be concerned or crossing their fingers.

Even if none of these events ever take place, it's peace of mind at very little expense. My solar panels/batteries charge my devices daily. I use my rain barrels for livestock water and reusable gray water. Canned food is rotated and consumed.

Benn Jordan @bennjordan.bsky.social · 06/10/2026
Good question. The answer is yes, you should stock up on canned food and water right now. If you can afford it, off-grid power, fuel, and radio comms. I tell anyone this whether or not a potential bioweapon event was happening. These are standard safety measures for hurricanes, power outages etc.

I have absolutely zero professional or academic experience in epidemiology. Some experience in professional research related to national security. Lots of experience with OSINT and SIGINT. For what it's worth, I was the guy who got made fun of for stockpiling toilet paper in February 2020.

It's treated with fluoroquinolones via long-term IV, and still has a relatively high fatality rate with treatment. Also worth noting that fluoroquinolones often cause permanent nerve damage and ototoxicity. Even if we're positive this isn't a chimera variant, it's still a concerning event.
110
Benn Jordan @bennjordan.bsky.social · 05/10/2026
Right, I saw this too. But do keep in mind that fluoroquinolones like this are administered for 10-14 days via IV and frequently cause permanent nerve damage. They're also very ototoxic. Even if we were somehow able to stockpile and administer this in a large outbreak, it would be devastating.

Who is "us"? I literally assumed you were an expert in this field when initially responding to you based on how you were tagged and the way you presented yourself. I have no desire to debate this with anyone. It's a concerning situation, not a bipartisan or subjective argument.

I understand that it's the same bacteria, but I've also seen conflicting information suggesting that it only seems to be proven effective for preventative therapy in humans. You've entered this discussion as an expert. That's why I asked you the question instead of relying on a search engine. 🤷🏻‍♂️

Benn Jordan @bennjordan.bsky.social · 05/10/2026
I'm not denying that at all. Just pointing out that it can indeed be resistant. Isn't levaquin only approved for bubonic and/or preventative usage?
110
Benn Jordan @bennjordan.bsky.social · 05/10/2026
Btw my reasoning behind this isn't political at all, nor do I think it was a "bioweapon". America does the same irresponsible GoF shit. I just think the odds of a lab whoopsie are higher than multiple mutations happening. The only value to knowing would be discouraging GoF research.
110
Benn Jordan @bennjordan.bsky.social · 05/10/2026
I'm actually not sold on the wet market explanation TBH. There were already multiple SARS outbreaks from Chinese gain-of-function labs historically, and COVID-19 happened to originate not far from a facility. Tho I'm glad people believe it was "natural" because we had/have a maniac in office.
210
Benn Jordan @bennjordan.bsky.social · 05/10/2026
Shortsighted how? I think that Russia's involvement with bioweapons + the type and location of the outbreak is something worth being concerned about. And if it turns out to be a nothingburger, more people have learned that Russia is still keeping and producing bioweapons.
130
Benn Jordan @bennjordan.bsky.social · 05/10/2026
- This isn't bubonic. Pneumonic plague requires antibiotics within the first 24 hours. - There have been antibiotic-resistant plague outbreaks in Madagascar. - Plague has been weaponised by Russia during the cold war and is strongly suspected to still be. The labs are in Siberia.

Benn Jordan @bennjordan.bsky.social · 05/10/2026
Biological War: A Scenario is about... ...wait for it... ...the extremely concerning possibility of a weaponised pneumonic plague strain leaking from a lab in Siberia.
3583
Benn Jordan @bennjordan.bsky.social · 05/10/2026
Okay, but: Hasn't Russia notoriously developed plague bioweapons in their Siberian Vector Lab facility? Hasn't there been antibiotic resistant plague outbreaks in Madagascar? And does this being the pneumonic, not bubonic, cause more concern regarding it being a weaponised variant?
130
Benn Jordan @bennjordan.bsky.social · 05/10/2026
They've been developing plague bioweapons since the cold war, unfortunately.
070
Benn Jordan @bennjordan.bsky.social · 05/10/2026
I'm actually pretty freaked out about this. An actual plague bioweapon makes nuclear war seem desirable, and Russia has been developing plague bioweapons for decades.

Is there a particular reason other than them going a little over the top in the long form YouTube demographic? I've seen a few of the "ground news bad" videos, and the argument always boils down to not liking the vibe. I'm genuinely curious as they're one of the only sponsors I'll work with.

I'm so bored of YouTubers examining other YouTubers and then removing context to create controversy. 1. His channel frames up contemporary news on a weekly basis. He's not publishing sci-fi novels. 2. Find me a Patrick Boyle video in the last 3 years that doesn't consistently credit sources.

This has resulted in a draft paper with clear statistical illusions, confounding causality, and unverified data being referenced as if it were vetted and published criminology research. In my opinion it's an enormous disservice to CrimRxiv's invaluable library of resources.

Right now, on both sides of the ALPR/Flock debate, companies and legislators are urging researchers and policy-writers to pump out papers they can point to. I'm asking CrimRxiv to increase their publishing standards on incomplete studies. www.bennjordan.com/blog/researc...
