I can't decide which to try first. [Springfield weekly Republican (Springfield, Mass.), February 24, 1910]
Dishes for an Invalid
From Harper's Bazar

Clam frappe: Freeze soft one pint of clear clam broth in an individual freezer, or by placing a small pail in a basin of chopped ice and salt. Serve in sherbet cups with a little unsweetened cream.

Chicken broth frappe: Boil one-half cup of sugar in one-half cup of water until clear: cool and add the juice of one lemon and one cup of clear, strong chicken broth. Freeze soft in the same manner as for the clam frappe.

An unlikely story (with bonus racism!). The Orangeburg News, [Orangeburg, SC], 5 June 1869, v.3, no. 16, p. 1.
A MOUSE JUMPS DOWN A JUDGE'S THROAT— While Judge Archer, of Marshall, Ind., was removing some boxes from a shelf one day last week, a mouse jumped out of one of them and into the mouth of the Judge, and started directly down his throat. The Judge, unlike John Chinaman, did not relish the taste, and after several hawks, succeeded, despite the efforts of the mouse, in getting him out of his throat into his mouth, but was rather slow in getting hold of the “little devil,” and he made another attempt but was again unsuccessful. Whether the mouse was trying to commit suicide, or whether he wanted merely to “revive the inner-man,” we have no way of ascertaining, but we are assured that he was successful in scaring the Judge considerably.

~Something resembling an Icicle~ Virginia Gazette, [Williamsburg, VA], Issue no. 8, 17 September 1736.
Private Letters from Paris mention, that Madam Sallee, the famous Dancer, so well known for the Coolness of her Passions, and who values herself at a very high Rate for her Vestal Pretences, has instituted an Order at Paris, by the Name of the Indifferents, into which both Men and Women are indiscriminately admitted. Mademoiselle Sallee is the President of the Order, and upon the Introduction of every Member, makes a nice Scrutiny into their Qualifications. There are likewise certain Rites performed, which, after the Manner of the Free Masons, no one must ever disclose. The Badge of the Order, is a Ribbon, strip’d Black, White, and Yellow, and the Device affixed to it, Something resembling an Isicle. They take an Oath to fight against Love, whose Power they renounce, and defy his whole Quiver of Darts: They allow all Freedom amongst themselves, where every Thing is to be in common; but the Hour the Parties grow particular, he or she, is to be excluded with Infamy.

To inaugurate this new account, I'm going to share one of the weirdest old newspaper articles I've found in a while. From the Daily Kennebec Journal, 8 Feb 1910.
Sixteen Dumplings Explode and Barrel Goes Up in Sympathy — The importance of eating apple dumplings to keep them out of mischief was illustrated for the benefit of the Montclair fire department, when sixteen of these toothsome delicacies—the dumplings, not the firemen—exploded and set fire to the home of the Donalds, 19 Orange road. The Donald cook in her eagerness to put a nut-brown color on the dumplings accumulated too much heat in the stove, with the result that the dumplings blew up, one after another.

So great was the farce [sic] of the explosion that the red-hot coals were hurled out of the range and scattered over the kitchen floor. Several of the coals landed in a barrel of apples, and when the firemen, summoned on a still alarm, entered the room, the roasting apples were popping out of a barrel. One of them struck fireman John Joseffy in the mouth, just as he opened it to give a command. He let out a smothered yell and almost choked to death.

The blaze did not amount to much, but the room got an entirely new scheme of decoration. There was an apple dumpling dado around the walls and the ceiling was studded with roasted apples.
