She also did a guest spot on @strictscrutiny.bsky.social a couple weeks ago where she talks about entrenchment / barriers / opportunities for de-Orbanization (and lessons in that for the US, esp re: courts)

My comment begins like this:
I am an associate professor of English at an R1 university and director of our Composition program, which encompasses writing instruction and studies of literacy and rhetoric from first-year undergraduate general education requirements, through a major in public and professional writing, through doctoral research.

The Trump administration’s changes to longstanding federal grant procedures since 2024 – especially the cancelation and delay of many grants in the sciences – introduced considerable budget uncertainty that has already resulted in major harms across my university, including in my department. The proposed rule changes in OMB-2026-0034 would compound these problems by prioritizing short-term political goals above sustained, deep inquiry [§200.202, §200.205], by introducing additional sources of delay [§200.205], and by ensuring that any promise of funding could be broken at any time, without warning [§200.340]. It would also limit our ability to study how the harms of these changes are distributed [§200.218], an unreflective process at odds with what we might call Gold Standard Humanities.

In what follows, I first document the harms I have witnessed directly since the start of the second Trump administration, as a result of practices (including those carried out by DOGE) that would be codified by OMB-2026-0034. I then go into greater detail about the problems in the specific regulations mentioned above. But I urge OMB to withdraw this proposed rule in its entirety, as its means and ends run counter to its stated aims of improving transparency, reducing waste, ending discrimination, and serving the public.

DEADLINE TONIGHT at 11:59pm: Post a comment on the OMB rule that would place political appointees above peer review for all federal grants. This is not just about science – all academics should care about this! See elizabethginexi.substack.com/p/what-we-ne... for an overview and tips. #teamrhetoric

This is so delightful and wholesome! Closest my toddler (now about to turn 13) ever got was his "book launch parties," as we called them, which involved gripping the bookshelf with one hand while flinging books behind him with the other

Issue 29: Rethinking Making in the Digital Humanities
The Journal of Interactive Technology and Pedagogy
(JITP) invites critical discourses on making with digital and computing technology that consider the following questions:
• How do making epistemologies shape our use of an approach to digital tools and techniques?
• How have we come to understand the form, constitution, genealogies, and politics of digital tools and techniques through making practices?
• What new vocabularies of partnership, praxes, of anti-oppression, and approaches to making labor visible emerge through making practices?

I don't often post, here or on govt actions, but this really gets my hackles up. As I said in my public comment: trans characters are not offensive. I am far more offended that this is even up for debate. We should not teach kids that only *some* people are entitled to dignity or self-determination.

An extraordinary separate dissent from Justice Jackson accuses the majority of trying to pass off its dirty work under the cover of the shadow docket and explicitly invokes Korematsu, the Japanese internment case. Wow. www.documentcloud.org/documents/25...
I lament that the Court appears to have embarked on a
new era of procedural variability, and that it has done so in
such a casual, inequitable, and, in my view, inappropriate
manner. See Department of Education v. California, 604
U. S. ___ , ___ (2025) (JACKSON, J., dissenting) (slip op., at
1–2). At least when the Court went off base in the past, it
left a record so posterity could see how it went wrong. See,
e.g., Korematsu v. United States, 323 U. S. 214 (1944). With
more and more of our most significant rulings taking place
in the shadows of our emergency docket, today’s Court
leaves less and less of a trace. But make no mistake: We
are just as wrong now as we have been in the past, with
similarly devastating consequences. It just seems we are
now less willing to face it.
