I realized this would be improved if I integrated it with hl-diff. So I'm now applying the bg-changed face into the side entries that overlap hl-diff hunks and I can see functions/sections that have been modified at a glance as well #emacs

imenu-list which shows modified sections with the appropriate face to distinguish them
