Ben Kreiter @benkreiter.com · 12/10/2026Minor clarification. The PL investigation didn't conclude anything about taxes, but the conclusions they make lead to certain conclusions about taxation if true. 000
Ben Kreiter @benkreiter.com · 12/10/2026The investigation's conclusion was that the money was really for his work as manager and should thus be taxed in the UK. Whether they did this to help him avoid taxes or to hide expenses for sporting reasons (or both) is not clear from publicly available info (or at least what I understand of it). 100
Ben Kreiter @benkreiter.com · 12/10/2026Whether that was the goal or a byproduct isn't clear to me from the public report, but Mancini is a good example. He was paid for things that as defined would have been taxed in UAE but the govt (who owns the club) waived the taxes. 100
Ben Kreiter @benkreiter.com · 12/10/2026The club is correctly stating actual revenue for tax purposes. They are lying about where that revenue came from. They are also understating their UK expenses by not disclosing the full extent of payments to players/managers and by mislabeling the purposes of the payments. That's the tax concern. 110

Ben Kreiter @benkreiter.com · 11/10/2026I recently worked with my parochial system's national office updating our suggested AI usage guidelines and sample policies. Ben Kreiter @benkreiter.com · 13/09/2026Not saying this is right, but if they want to restrict Chinese competition, they need to scare congress that allowing a bunch of open source models to run amok is dangerous and needs to be regulated. I'm curious what they tell Washington in the coming weeks, and if China goes along with a slowdown. 001

Ben Kreiter @benkreiter.com · 09/09/2026My daughter told me on the way to school that each morning they watch a video of someone doing something nice for someone else and talk about it. Ben Kreiter @benkreiter.com · 09/09/2026I was working on some pieces of writing that health challenges have gotten in the way of, but the gist is that Tech is America's religion, and as it is secularizing, we are getting radical Gnostic offshoots centered around AI and Extraterrestrial/Trans-dimensional life as a byproduct. 010
Ben Kreiter @benkreiter.com · 09/09/2026I think Tyler is hoping for a level of nuance between 'this is nothing' and 'this is the apocalypse'. I see the primary risks of AI being relational damage, content overload, security, and offloading of responsibility in important decisions (insurance, legal documents, etc.) rather than Skynet. 110
Ben Kreiter @benkreiter.com · 09/09/2026I think there's plenty of room between "use cases aren't much better [than Metaverse]" and civilizational collapse, no? 100

Ben Kreiter @benkreiter.com · 14/07/2026Anecdotal but my coworkers who use AI regularly use plain OpenAI mostly. Some are switching to Claude. They all use a personal account that they happen to do work stuff on, so they can also do personal stuff with it. I don't know a single one using an education tailored service. 010
Ben Kreiter @benkreiter.com · 13/07/2026Probably not. I doubt PE are hugely involved where I live. Just moreso observing how in a small town that is only getting new construction when a person/family chooses to build their own house, corporate ownership can really mess up a small town without making a dent on national metrics. 010
Ben Kreiter @benkreiter.com · 13/07/2026I live in a 3 stoplight kind of town and I don't know if its PE specifically, but a lot of houses are getting gobbled up by corporations of some kind, converted to duplexes and rented out. It's making it tough because we aren't exactly a "build a new subdivision" kind of place. 100
