Benjamin Thomas @benjiswriting.bsky.social · 21/05/2026I’m not an advocate for either but I think the conversation has to be had about how to adapt to this because no leadership anywhere is going to do anything 000 0
Benjamin Thomas @benjiswriting.bsky.social · 21/05/2026So last time I mailed something (about a month ago) that was ten pages in a regular envelope it was ~1.50 (I’m in the states if that makes a difference). Mags could charge 1.50 a sub to dissuade AI blasts but we’ve been programmed to think mags that charge sub fees are bad. 210 0

Benjamin Thomas @benjiswriting.bsky.social · 21/05/2026I mean I get that but at the end of the day we have to pick whats the lesser of two evils. If your work load is up 25% already due to AI that bottleneck is already there. It might not work for CW but it might for others. Options are options! 000 0
Benjamin Thomas @benjiswriting.bsky.social · 21/05/2026I mean I get that but you’re not blindly sending out full manuscripts. Most places want a query and sample pages which would fit in a normal envelope and cost standard post rates. Most libraries you can print for .10c a page. I’m not advocating for this but all options should be on the table 100 0
Benjamin Thomas @benjiswriting.bsky.social · 20/05/2026Honestly could see places going back to snail mail subs the same way faculty are going back to blue books. 140 0
