My NarraScope talk is live! 🎙️ "Play is Primal Storytelling" is 15 mins of me trying to justify my years at Game Informer and writing on Civ VII/Midnight Suns by talking about video games as primal psychological simulators. Watch it here: www.youtube.com/watch?v=8gM-...

Wanted to call out some pieces in this issue that I think are great. @mikedrucker.bsky.social wrote a about comedy in games featuring interviews with folks like Tim Schafer, Al Lowe, Dana Gould, and more. And @benjaminreeves.bsky.social returns to GI to examine moral panic in video games.

I wrote a piece for Game Informer about why society blames games for its problems: My favorite piece of history? In 1982, the U.S. Surgeon General warned everyone that Pac-Man and Space Invaders were a danger to kids. Read it before the next medium gets banned: gameinformer.com/feature/2026...

i also want to note that while i *did* work on the base game, DLC was me and @benjaminreeves.bsky.social with the trust of our (wisely offline) director Zach Bush, who gave us 4 weirdos to pick from and let us cook

Yeah, I think I’ll keep going with Godot for another thing. Still working it out. Definitely try it, you can do it.

I spent 30 days with Godot and it reminded me that game dev will always humble you. 🫠 📖 Read about my journey learning a new game dev tool on Game Developer right now: www.gamedeveloper.com/programming/... 🕹️ Or play the experimental project it birthed: streetcomedian.itch.io/the-last-lamplighter

@benjaminreeves.bsky.social has been a game journalist and a narrative designer, never really doing any kind of solo project. What happened when he set out to make a game in 30 days with Godot? the answer…he made a pretty good game!

It’s a weird time to be in game dev. I went to GDC 2026 feeling like the industry might actually hate us. But then I saw a guy brushing giant papier-mâché teeth and had dinner with friends where we just talked about the games we loved. Read my recap here: 🎮 #GDC2026 #GameDev
