Hell Yeah. "Det Hjemsøkte Hjertet" by Panopticon. "Ghost Eyes in the Fire Light" is one of the best closing tracks on an album I have ever heard.

There is so much about being in academia that is brutal and demoralizing. However, there's pretty much nothing better than a good day of teaching when everything just seems to click.

I got my hands on a copy of my recent article on Schelling, Plato, and Spinoza. Aside from a horrid typo I found, I'm pretty happy with this one. Reach out if you're interested in giving it a read.
"Who Knows? On Schelling’s Monism" by Benjamin Norris.

Abstract: This article argues that when viewed as the culmination of an evolving project, Schelling’s monism ought to be understood as an existence monism as opposed to a priority monism. It makes this case through an analysis of the young Schelling’s relationship to Neoplatonism and Spinozism. After presenting Naomi Fisher’s case for reading Schelling as a priority monist inspired by the Neoplatonists it argues that the themes of eternity and duration in Spinoza’s Ethics provide Schelling the framework for defeating what he calls the “subjectivization” of reason in the 1804 System of Philosophy. This defeat is accomplished by the elimination of any ontological distinction between who knows, what is known, and knowledge itself. The elimination of these distinctions entails a form of existence monism without need for the Neoplatonic dynamics of procession and return. The article concludes with some implications of the defense of existence monism provided there

Does anyone out there have a pdf of Hegel's "Glauben und Wissen"? I know there are web versions but I'd really really like the Gesammelte Werke version (Band 4) if possible.

Feels like ages but just a few years: In this blog post I argued for why we needed to study Karoline von Günderrode's works for their philosophical ideas and not focus on her admittedly fascinating life, loves, and suicide: acezekiel.com/2020/11/17/w...

If you were to add a recent good faith, intellectually rigorous defense of contemporary conservatism to a social and political philosophy class, what might you recommend? I've been reading Burke, but it's not really what I'm looking for.

Please don't get mad at me, but I've decided I want to use selections from Badiou's translation of the Republic for my Ancient class. Should be interesting; I really hope it works.

My favorite use of the trolley problem is putting it on an exam and reading the answers of the students who never came to class and refuse to work within the confines of the experiment. I've seen some real creative "solutions".

I'm reworking my Ancient philosophy syllabus. We're going to do Euthyphro and Crito as well as selections from the Republic and Parmenides. I kind of want to add a full dialogue that's not just about ethics. If you could only have students read one full Platonic dialogue, which would you pick?

"Rituals of Shame" captures something of "Watching from a Distance" I didn't think would be possible. On first listen one says "sure, that's a Warning album", but then something of it get stuck inside your brain. Eventually you will find yourself listening to it on repeat.
