INAUGURAL LECTURE
Professor Ben Barr
Professor in Applied Public Health Research
Head, WHO Collaborating Centre for Policy Research on Determinants of Health Equity
The Epidemiology of Money
How money — and what governments do with it — shapes health and health inequalities.

Professor Ben Barr is Professor of Applied Public Health in the Department of Public Health, Policy and Systems at the University of Liverpool, and Head of the WHO Collaborating Centre for Policy Research on Determinants of Health Equity.
The health divide blights this country. But it is not inevitable — it's driven by policy choices. Across his career in public health, Professor Barr has sought to understand the health inequalities consequences of different strategies for public investment in services and households, and how those strategies could be improved.
In this lecture, drawing on two decades of research, Professor Barr will explore how decisions about the allocation of public money - to people and to places - have shaped the pattern of health we see today, and what this means for building a welfare state fit for the future.

This. Makes me think of the Blake quote: "that called Body is a portion of a Soul discerned by the five senses, the chief inlets of Soul in this age."

My kid (age 12) made a poster for a school project on “Languages for peace”

A painting in the style of a Chinese scroll of a lotus flower and poem written in three languages. The text is a Tamil love poem written in three different languages (Mandarin, Hindi, Urdu)
The symbol in the lotus is the Hindu Om symbol inside the islamic crescent moon with the Om symbol curled round the star to symbolizing peace between the two rivel countries (India and Pakistan). The poster is in the shape of a scroll like most Chinese calligraphy is. The poem refers to mingled and I have mingled the words to symbolise that the "mingled" can also symbolize peace too.

When my kid was about 7 he used to tell himself a story each night in bed before sleeping. First asking me to note the title. Here’s a selection
