It’s really undersold how handsome he was. A true Aussie legend that will be missed.

Sometimes of an evening while my wife is in the shower I’ll randomly rattle the cutlery draw or walk around really loudly enough for her to hear, just so she doesn’t think I was doing nothing while she was showering.

Bernie’s autobiography Scattershot is a fascinating read.

Sad news. Suddenly is one of the great under-appreciated Australian ballads.

I’m not quite so old, but I did get a cd in a pack of cereal once.

I never rated Tool until I met my wife, who is bordering on a super fan. I’ve since seen two of their shows and they were two of the best live performances I’ve ever seen. Their music still isn’t my cup of tea, but I can appreciate their brilliance.

Now up to 61 single and two album downloads for the year to date. Last five single downloads: 1. Who Knew - P!NK 2. Boneyards - Parkway Drive 3. Bass Pursuades - Miley 4. Tom Sawyer - Rush 5. Jump Around - House of Pain That should cover a few moods.

What’s your take on summer? Was it as brutal over there as it looks like on the news?

One of the very few good things about COVID times! Loved these.

This is the correct way to spend wealth.

Now Soul Asylum and Ugly Kid Joe are co-headlining an Australian tour whaaaaatttt…..

100%. From the very first moment 20+ years ago when I read about the concept of renting music (as a way of combatting piracy) I knew I would never accept it. And to this day I have never streamed a single song.

Hopefully sooner (like I have).

I’m currently up in Alice Springs for work. Alice is basically right in the middle of Australia, and it’s a spectacular part of the world.

Britney is going to disown me; I downloaded a Parkway Drive song today (Boneyards). Happy Birthday to Winston McCall, frontman of Australia’s greatest metalcore group.

When I have the money. One day…

I have long thought that not enough blame has been attributed to the music “consumer.” Piracy wouldn’t be a problem if everyone had some integrity.

I’d love to know the reasons for people illegally streaming. Is it lack of choice elsewhere? Or are they just being cheap and lazy?

Even when they’re half asleep they’ll still know if you’ve skipped anything.

Love the music acts that are coming to Adelaide. Not so much that I don’t have the time to see them (money is never an issue if I want to go to a show THAT bad). Ann Wilson, Kim Wilde, Debbie Gibson, Go West, Bryan Adams, Live, 4 Non Blondes… what’s going on… with this retro revival. Love it 🤘

The three seashells has to be one of the greatest movie mysteries of all time.

Ben Hocko @benhocko.bsky.social · 25/08/2026

At least they have lots of real life material to work with.

August 22 has to be one of the most popular musician/industry birthdays in my database. 13, in fact: John Lee Hooker, Donna Godchaux, Michael Gudinski, Vernon Reid, Juan Croucier, Roland Orzabal, Eddie Chacon, James DeBarge, Tori Amos, GZA, Layne Stanley, Howie Dorough, and Dua Lipa.

I must say the next few songs on today’s housework playlist are fire.

My Insta/FB post a few days ago on remembering the passing of Judith Durham - August 5 2022 - via my music page Music Gaga has now become my most viewed Reel (440K and still climbing). It has just bested my John Bonham post (437K).

Only four Australian dates, and Adelaide is one of them. Ann Wilson supported by Australian rock legends Dragon? Yes please!

I live my life as if one day older me gets to meet younger me, who asks “how does my life end up going?”, and older me can reply “well, have I got a story for you…”

Ben Hocko @benhocko.bsky.social · 13/07/2026

Loved Sam Neill- his popular work was very good of course, but his acting in smaller Aussie drama series’ was what made it feel like he was just the kind of guy you’d love to be friends with.

A true loss to Australian music and its history.

I think I just despair at the lack of creativity, that it alludes to a wider apathy of the importance of effort. But yes correcting the errors is just as annoying. Hope you’re well!

I don’t have the words to describe my (very negative) feelings towards AI-generated captions in social media. Why are people so keen to take the laziest route possible?

We dont have 5+ min songs anymore cause these artist dont have enough vocals to last that long and everyone has the attention span of a hamster.

Chuffed with this notification re. Alec Baldwin. I hit 10,000 Insta followers last week with my page The Music Gaga. With almost 40K FB followers as well I am wondering how to leverage this, if at all? Any ideas, anyone?
