Ben Goldacre @bengoldacre.bsky.social · 20/09/2026I met Adrian Shooter once. He was amazing and truly loved trains. He had a ride on railway in his garden, and kept a vintage class 121 bubble car running out of princes risborough just because they look fantastic. We need more people who love infrastructure and service. His death was a great loss. 072
Ben Goldacre @bengoldacre.bsky.social · 10/09/2026A boring thought. I bought a used first gen Google Pixel Fold when the 2nd gen came out. It's great. It cost £500 from cex: so, 70% cheaper. A one yr old phone is never that much cheaper. Why the difference? My guess: most people who buy a folding phone would rather die than have last year's model. 4140

Ben Goldacre @bengoldacre.bsky.social · 03/08/2026Sad to see people posting on social media negatively about Rod Liddle, who died yesterday. If I have disagreed with you very strongly in life - and you die - I hope I'll be either silent, or kind. 644635

Ben Goldacre @bengoldacre.bsky.social · 24/07/2026I've never been a guitar afficionado, mine is an epiphone s200, I always thought it was pretty ugly, but it's the only guitar I've ever had. I do like the low hiss of humbuckers for plugging it into things like an octatrack. 100

Ben Goldacre @bengoldacre.bsky.social · 24/07/2026Speaking of music shops, the new record from Panda Bear and Sonic Boom (Spaceman 3) is great, and it's not on any streaming platform. To hear it, you have to risk it and buy it, like in the olden days; then listen to it many times until you like it. Or: make friends with someone who has it already. 2150
Ben Goldacre @bengoldacre.bsky.social · 24/07/2026It really is a great music shop tho and you should spend money there. Ancient 19" rack FX units that smell correctly of beer. Huge hissy 1980s mixing desks. And normal things. I still remember the Akai AX73 I lusted for in 1989 when it was Musicology in Littlemore. £165 then was unimaginable (good). 2140
Ben Goldacre @bengoldacre.bsky.social · 24/07/2026Just went to The Music Box on Cowley Rd to get my guitar fixed. I bought it in 1990 aged 16 for £85, from him. Now he's the only instrument shop left in Oxford. No smiling photos because (a) I'm not like that (b) as you'd hope from a great guitar shop he's appalled at the prospect of more customers. 5660
Ben Goldacre @bengoldacre.bsky.social · 21/07/2026Watering new trees is permitted during a hosepipe ban. But how do you communicate to neighbours that your noisy babbling hose is on legitimate legal business? Single foghorn blast then confident announcement on a loudhailer? (First timer, I've just bought three trees, soon they will die). 12293

SUV drivers drag the child under their vehicle, and then they crush the child to death.
