Ben Cogan @bencogan1.bsky.social · 08/09/2026Vue Exeter has chosen the smallest screen possible to show The Voyage Home and I was sadly unable to get tickets. So I’ll be celebrating Star Trek’s 60th anniversary by starting Voyager for the first time instead 🖖 000

Ben Cogan @bencogan1.bsky.social · 03/09/2026A very daft short story I wrote about a year ago has been published today by Flash Fiction Magazine. Yay. flashfictionmagazine.com/blog/2026/09...flashfictionmagazine.comThe Bridge of No ReturnAs the long arm of my clock slowly marched to its scheduled meeting with the number twelve, I noticed that the pink light of the faeries that radiated up from the garden at night had begun to dimin… 011
Ben Cogan @bencogan1.bsky.social · 02/09/2026Nog’s impassioned plea to Sisko about wanting to join Starfleet is one of my favourite moments yet. And my favourite episode so far is The Visitor, followed by Duet -but I think that’s a fairly common opinion. I’m coming up to the end of s4 now and have to start Voyager, but I don’t want DS9 to end! 010
Ben Cogan @bencogan1.bsky.social · 31/08/2026Breaking my absence on here to report that I’m currently watching Deep Space Nine for the first time. I’m halfway through season four and ready to declare this as the greatest Trek show. I’ll be shocked if a future holodeck episode can best Our Man Bashir. 121

Ben Cogan @bencogan1.bsky.social · 04/01/2026You’re actually just incredibly immersed in the world of JRR Tolkien, trying to read LOTR in the same amount of time it took Frodo to get to Mordor and back. 110
Ben Cogan @bencogan1.bsky.social · 04/01/2026I got Babel by R.F Kuang for my birthday a few weeks back and read all 550 odd pages in about a week. I couldn’t put it down! 060
Ben Cogan @bencogan1.bsky.social · 24/12/2025Pluribus is terrific television. The wait for series two is going to feel very long indeed. 020

Ben Cogan @bencogan1.bsky.social · 22/11/2025It’s been 50 years since The Android Invasion (not that I was around back then so I can’t reminisce). Here I am pretending to be Tom Baker at East Hagbourne back in April whilst wearing a franchise inappropriate T-shirt. 040
Ben Cogan @bencogan1.bsky.social · 10/11/2025I’m back in Britain. Weather is abysmal. All my fault again, sorry about that. Won’t happen again if I can help it. 110
Ben Cogan @bencogan1.bsky.social · 18/10/2025And they call this ‘Spring’ Down Under? I’ve got red hair. I’m going to die. 110
Ben Cogan @bencogan1.bsky.social · 16/10/2025You’ll be saying something silly like ‘The Invasion of Time is a better story’ next. I can see it coming Dan. 110
Ben Cogan @bencogan1.bsky.social · 16/10/2025Rewatching The Sontaran Experiment tonight for some Devon comforts. I visited Hound Tor myself back in July and took some photos. Styre had clearly popped out for the day and was nowhere to be seen. 260
Ben Cogan @bencogan1.bsky.social · 07/10/2025Just booked my ticket to see Katy Manning interview Carole Ann Ford in Parramatta this weekend. Very much looking forward to it. 000
Ben Cogan @bencogan1.bsky.social · 29/09/2025Accommodation contract issues means that in the month of December I would be homeless on the streets of Sydney for three weeks between flats. My hand has been forced to fly home for Christmas (yay!). My carbon footprint is gonna be larger than that of Taylor Swift. 010
Ben Cogan @bencogan1.bsky.social · 21/09/2025On season 2 of my The Next Generation journey and the bangers are starting to come more and more consecutively. The Measure of a Man is truly one of the greats. 000
Ben Cogan @bencogan1.bsky.social · 20/09/2025Here are my silly three. I’m currently away and miss them very much. 010
Ben Cogan @bencogan1.bsky.social · 18/09/2025I look forward to watching it soon. Some adaptations absolutely make changes for the better, but I also sometimes can’t help loving being the smug git who has read the book. I’m going to be insufferable when Dune Messiah comes out next year, even though I know I’ll love it. 100
Ben Cogan @bencogan1.bsky.social · 17/09/2025That’s a very bold take. It was watching Pet Sematary (1989, I’m not touching the 2019 one) after reading the book which prompted me to always try and do King’s books first. I can’t imagine trying to take the book seriously after watching an adaptation that whacky and unserious. 100
Ben Cogan @bencogan1.bsky.social · 17/09/2025To the disgrace of my cinephile self, I’ve never seen Stanley Kubrick’s The Shining. I made a vow recently to always try and read a King book before watching the adaptation (already broken with The Long Walk) so, having started the book yesterday, I’ve now begun my journey to the Overlook Hotel. 110
Ben Cogan @bencogan1.bsky.social · 11/09/2025Maybe the intent was there in Arc of Infinity, he just didn’t have the knees or hips for it yet. 110
Ben Cogan @bencogan1.bsky.social · 10/09/2025Rewatching Arc of Infinity today. I love Borusa’s disbelief at the thought of a traitor on the Gallifreyan High Council knowing full well that when he gets home he’ll be reworking his diary to push back his Death Zone plans. 110

Ben Cogan @bencogan1.bsky.social · 02/09/2025Doctor Who and the rural British villages, my favourite story setting. We even got a bonkers local old lady. They make the best side characters, Professor Rumford being the best of course. 010
Ben Cogan @bencogan1.bsky.social · 02/09/2025I hate to remind you, but D84’s fate would make it quite miraculous if he appeared in the sequel. Anyhow, loved this story. 110
Ben Cogan @bencogan1.bsky.social · 31/08/2025What scares me most is how fast it’s developed. When I started university in 2023 I was in the first academic year group (as far as I know) given official AI warnings for work, but even then anyone using it daily was still an alien concept. In under two years it’s become so normalised. Terrifying. 010
Ben Cogan @bencogan1.bsky.social · 31/08/2025Nothing grows bigger than the pit in my stomach when I’m speaking to someone and they mention “asking ChatGPT” or “I’ll just have to rely on ChatGPT”. A horribly common phrase to hear these days, especially at university. 120
Reposted by Ben CoganJonny Morris @jonnymorris.bsky.social · 31/08/2025Very sad to hear we've lost Christopher H Bidmead. Always struck me as a very genial chap who took his work seriously but not himself. Hard to over-express my admiration for Frontios, and the ideas in Logopolis and Castrovalva, where mathematics is treated as where philosophy and poetry meet. 1129764
Ben Cogan @bencogan1.bsky.social · 29/08/2025The novelty of seeing exotic birds as part of daily life in Australia is something I thought would never quite wear off whilst I’m here. But the shrieking noises the flocks of cockatoos make every night at 1am has me down to my last nerve. 000
Ben Cogan @bencogan1.bsky.social · 27/08/2025Finished reading ‘Salem’s Lot for the first time today. Excellent, what a classic. Time to watch the 1979 miniseries and see how it fairs - I’m told it’s very good. I really should read Dracula now, ashamed that I’ve not got around to it yet. 220
Ben Cogan @bencogan1.bsky.social · 23/08/2025The shopping centre near me closes a new escalator everyday without fail. The supermarkets are on the top floor. Getting myself up there and subsequently leaving the building with a litre of milk is an experience I imagine can only be comparable to that of navigating Castrovalva. 030
Ben Cogan @bencogan1.bsky.social · 22/08/2025Just watched ‘Hide and “Q”’ and things are starting to look up. Best episode so far. 010
Ben Cogan @bencogan1.bsky.social · 22/08/2025I’ve enjoyed ‘Where No One Has Gone Before’ but ‘Code of Honour’ is down there with the worst of the worst that I’ve seen so far. Down in the dregs with the likes of Mudd’s Women and Turnabout Intruder. 110
Ben Cogan @bencogan1.bsky.social · 22/08/2025Watching The Next Generation for the first time to procrastinate work and wait out the rain. Yikes, the show had a rocky start. Not many highlights so far, convinced that if it wasn’t attached to the Star Trek brand then it wouldn’t have been renewed beyond the first season. 120
Ben Cogan @bencogan1.bsky.social · 21/08/2025You’ll know when I’m coming home because grey clouds will start to appear on the horizon. They herald my arrival. 110
Ben Cogan @bencogan1.bsky.social · 21/08/2025I’m very sorry to the people of New South Wales, I have just come from Cardiff (officially the UK’s wettest city) and I’ve clearly brought the weather with me. I can only apologise to everyone as this is entirely my fault. 120
