This month, I’m especially pleased to celebrate a Winnipeg favourite, Falafel Place, as they mark 40 years in business. For four decades, they have served generations of Winnipeggers and become a true part of our city’s food and community culture.

The storm that came through Winnipeg this weekend left significant impact and we are continuing to survey the damage in River Heights and checking in with residents. We encourage those impacted to be in touch with 311 and MB Hydro and to continue taking precautionary measures as power is restored.

One of the things I love about Winnipeg South Centre is how deep the roots run. It was great connecting with so many neighbours while door knocking in the Fort Garry area where I was born.

Today, on International Overdose Awareness Day, we remember the Canadians we’ve lost to overdose and stand with everyone affected by substance use. We all know someone who is struggling: a loved one, friend, neighbour, or colleague. Behind every statistic is a person who matters.

Today, we honour the legacy of Terry Fox, a Canadian whose courage and determination continues to inspire generations. The Terry Fox Memorial in Thunder Bay marks the place where his Marathon of Hope came to an end, but where his legacy truly began.

Supporting organizations like these helps ensure victims can access the care and protection they deserve. That is why our government is announcing over $50 million to strengthen victim services, support survivors of sexual assault and human trafficking, and help children who have experienced abuse.
