What happens when you take one late-identified autistic with a sparkling awkwardness and a focus on belonging and put her together with another late-discovered autistic with a sparkling intellect and a focus on exclusion? Butterflies, kaleidoscopes, and penguin pebbling, of course! ⤵️

I know your focus is on veterans, but can civilians also attend these events?

“…I contemplate what our lives would be like if we knew how to cultivate awareness, to live mindfully, peacefully; if we learned habits of being that would bring us closer together, that would help us build beloved community.” -bell hooks, Belonging: A Culture of Place #belongingness

“I dreamed about a culture of belonging. I still dream that dream. I contemplate what our lives would be like if we knew how to cultivate awareness, to live mindfully, peacefully; if we learned habits of being that would bring us closer together, that would help us build beloved community.”

“True belonging doesn’t require you to change who you are; it requires you to be who you are.” -Brené Brown, The Call to Courage #belongingness

“True belonging is the spiritual practice of believing in and belonging to yourself so deeply that you can share your most authentic self with the world and find sacredness in both being a part of something and standing alone in the wilderness.

“True belonging doesn’t require you to change who you are; it requires you to be who you are.”

I’d love to know what ‘belongingness’—the sense of true belonging—means to YOU! For me, it means self-acceptance, unconditional love, and authenticity. It means being included in and accepted by a community of individuals who understand me, and I them. It’s being supported and respected. Being me.

2/2 “…they go from one flower to the next, spreading pollen. And although each butterfly is different, they work together to make the world a more beautiful and fruitful place.” (Reyna I. Aburto, 2018) Note: A kaleidoscope butterfly will make an appearance in the content, as well. 💖

About the Inspiration behind the logo: “A group of butterflies is called a kaleidoscope. …Each butterfly in a kaleidoscope is unique and different, yet these seemingly fragile creatures have been designed by a loving Creator with the ability to survive, travel, multiply, and disseminate life as…” ⬇️

What is the Belongingness Effect? A theory I’m currently working on—a combination of other theories and hypotheses culminating in what I hope will change how we see and how we interact with others. I’m calling it my legacy project. My life’s work… my purpose. Join me on my journey to belonging. 💖
