Don’t forget to check the finalist and semifinalists - there’s an amazing selection of indies to check it out!

My super-thanks to all the judges for the generosity of their time in reading and reviewing so many books - it is not an easy task having to choose between such fantastic stories and thanks to Corey Ratliff for organising this competition.

I am very conscious of how imperfect it still is, but I am so very proud of the characters and the world I created. Current books in the series: 1. The Sorrow of the Wise Man (IBOR 2026 Winner) 1.5. Of Sorrow and Ashes (companion novella) 2. Darkness Unleashed 3. Maiden Queen

100

I started writing it in my teens when I still scribbled stories in my notebooks, then it went through a translation and many revisions in the past 30-odd years, growing on both sides until the “Eileerean Saga” took its current shape.

100

This story has been my companion for the best part of my life - although it was not the first I self-published, it was the first novel I wrote.

I’m so chuffed that “The Sorrow of the Wise Man” won the first IBOR Competition! Being amongst such great semifinalists was already amazing and I was truly not expecting this at all! #booksky #indiebooks #fantasybooks #ibor2026
