Apparently the current setting material loreslop explanation for why modern MS cockpit UIs look like this vs. the classic ones is "The old minimalist MS panoramic cockpit UIs made some pilots feel like they were free-floating helplessly in space and they had panic attacks" which I think is fun lol

Found a scan of this book online and in the process found some related discussions on the JP side of Gundam nerd internet. This resulted in me learning after all these years that in CCA, the color of "real" space is always depicted as black or a blue/black gradient and "cockpit space" is light blue

Oh shit. While looking up examples of this just now I stumbled on to the existence of this book LMFAO. I should import this

Mobile Suit Gundam: Display Design Art Works by Yoshinori Sayama

One of the reasons they interest me is because they need to sell the fantasy of looking like a real UI but because their actual goal is to sell a specific aesthetic, they actually end up utilizing a lot of UI/UX design sins to achieve this (tiny text, uniform colors for different functions, etc)

100

I've started to get really into fantastical UI/UX aesthetics recently, I find them really fascinating as a thing designers have to shed blood, sweat, and tears over for the sake of scenes that almost always last less than 30 seconds and boil down to dots and arrows moving around on a map

Sad I couldn't make it to Roundhouse this year but I hope everyone in attendance has fun!

"I dwell amidst the abounding light of heaven, thou art at the gate to the underworld" is both a spell incantation used at the start of Tales of Phantasia and also what I imagine Northernlion would be saying to people on the street if he was a JRPG tavern bard

"Sex as a Character Skill predates DnD by 3 years" doesn't feel like a thing that should be real but the more I learn about Blackmoor the less convinced I am I understand what the hell was going on in that basement

I'm so sorry for your loss, Dari. Take as long as you need to feel everything you have to feel, and I'm always a message away if you need to talk ❤️

A/V and S Video cables came in for the SuperStation... 👀👀👀

My thing is, in a world where Freedom didn't exist, I'd actually be fairly interested in seeing a Shinn/Lunamaria-focused follow-up to Destiny. I like those two, more than the rest of the show around them! But knowing the end point of all this is Shinn being a complete doormat to Kira? Nah

YEAH. THAT'S ONE WAY OF PUTTING IT MAN SURE

Due to a combo of life stuff (I'm doing birthday stuff with friends on Sunday!) and work stuff (boooo) I can't make the pod at its normal time for 2-3 weeks here, but I hope y'all enjoy Mel and Red talking about dinosaurs in my absence

Dan's back. The Hot Dog aliens are back. The '90s aesthetics have arrived. And there was an attempt at telling a story about humanity's relationship with the environment kinda-sorta

Spent the last few nights setting up the SuperStation and while it's been fun, I absolutely can see how a lot of people bought this expecting a drag-and-drop fun retro gaming experience and immediately became frustrated lol

Oh wow thank you I didn't know that the Nazi streamer with Nazi opinions posted another Nazi opinion on his Twitter. It's really important that you shared that with everyone on here so everyone can be mad about that

Honestly this is me with the GBA versions at this point lol everyone always complains about the crunchy OST and since I spent so much time with them when I was younger I'm always like "This is just how it sounds"

020

If these things weren't $40+ a pop I'd seriously consider it for the novelty but that's like double what I'd want to pay for any one of these and as soon as we enter into emulation or fpga territory, I'm picking different versions of each of these games to play lmao

what if I played the PS1 version of FF6 just for funsies

Just spent like 10 minutes going "What if I bought copies of the PS1 FF Collections" and then, in a moment of clarity, thought to myself "Why would I do that"
