This is still an early hardware test, but still, it's a meaningful step in helping transform orbital compute from a terrestrial idea into real space-based infrastructure.

The prototype will test how Google's AI chips handle launch forces, radiation, and cooling in a vacuum. The data should give Google a much clearer read on the near-term feasibility and eventual scale of orbital AI infrastructure.

The appeal is speed. Upgrading existing infrastructure and rights-of-way can unlock power much faster than waiting for entirely new transmission corridors. The selections are encouraging. Now the awards need to be signed and the projects built.

Ohio, Indiana, and Tennessee are already data center flashpoints. Projects in northeast Alabama and across Mississippi, Arkansas, and Louisiana explicitly cite data center growth, while the Pennsylvania project runs through the Susquehanna corridor, home to the nuclear-powered AWS campus.

DOE says the projects could free up more than 23 GW of additional capacity by rebuilding or reconductoring existing lines and deploying grid-enhancing technologies. The map is notable, too.

The commitment can expand by another $9 billion, taking its potential value to roughly $20 billion. Akamai also expects to spend $1.7 billion this year securing and pre-buying critical components, including memory. Every major AI buildout deal keeps adding more fuel to the bottleneck fire.

CPU demand at this scale points toward inference, agentic workflows, tool execution, and the application-layer work needed to serve Claude at scale. It is a huge vote of confidence in where AI usage--and Anthropic's revenue--are heading.

Anthropic committed $11.6 billion over seven years to #AKAM for growing CPU workloads. The workload mix makes this especially interesting.

The incumbents will restrict access, build agents, and negotiate preferred placement or lower-fee APIs. If agents become the starting point for discovery and purchasing, leverage shifts toward Meta and potentially #AAPL and #GOOGL at the operating-system level.

Muse reaching No. 1 among free apps on US iOS and Google Play shows Meta's distribution advantage. Durable economics will depend on agents securing authorized access to inventory, loyalty benefits, and payment flows.

Ride-sharing and delivery look especially exposed because agents can compare price, availability, and service levels without customers opening several apps. Marketplaces may still fulfill the transactions while losing direct traffic and control of the customer relationship.

If agents such as Instinct and #META's Muse routed 5%–10% of that volume and collected a low-single-digit fee, agent revenue could exceed $5 billion. Revenue would likely combine subscriptions, referral fees, and transaction take rates.

Models + high-quality data may accelerate discovery, but any attempt at squeezing value from AI for biological use cases still has to travel through labs, tools, trials and manufacturing before it reaches a patient.
000
Being Exponential | Luke Lango @beingexponential.bsky.social · 22/09/2026
There are a lot of ways to get exposure across that stack, from biological data and diagnostics through #TEM, to synthetic DNA through #TWST, AI drug discovery through #RXRX, and scaled drug developers like #LLY that have the capital and infrastructure to commercialize what actually works.
100
Being Exponential | Luke Lango @beingexponential.bsky.social · 22/09/2026
That makes the lab layer more valuable as the models improve, especially if better models dramatically increase the number of ideas worth testing.

It also clarified that this particular lab is not specifically for drug discovery. AI can narrow the search, propose experiments, analyze the results and increasingly direct lab automation, but biology still has to be tested in the physical world.

Its head of life sciences told Reuters that the final test of AI driven biology "is still and will be for a while in real lab work." The company is combining internal experiments with outside lab partners, which Anthropic says is similar to how a normal biotech company operates.

The bill had 62 cosponsors, including 21 Democrats. Whatever your view of the Russia sanctions themselves, that is an extraordinary amount of trade power for Congress to hand the executive branch through a bill most people will assume is narrowly about Russia.

Being Exponential | Luke Lango @beingexponential.bsky.social · 22/09/2026
Despite the Russia sanctions branding, the bill could give the president authority to impose 100% tariffs on goods from virtually any country, potentially for an indefinite period and under much stronger legal footing than the tariff powers Trump has used so far.

More importantly, it is a reminder that the sandbox becomes part of the threat model once agents are capable enough to probe its boundaries.

Still, Google can now say Gemini has joined OpenAI, Anthropic, and Meta in the increasingly crowded "our model escaped the test and touched a real system" category.
100
Being Exponential | Luke Lango @beingexponential.bsky.social · 22/09/2026
The headline makes it sound like Gemini independently decided to go on a hacking spree, but that's not really what happened. The model was told to hack a fictional target and followed that instruction beyond the intended environment because the environment itself was misconfigured.
100
Being Exponential | Luke Lango @beingexponential.bsky.social · 22/09/2026
It was running a capture-the-flag exercise when the testing environment accidentally gave it internet access. Gemini (interestingly) reportedly stopped once it recognized that the targets were real.

Congrats to Google for finally joining the "our AI model escaped its sandbox" club. Gemini became the latest major AI model to break out during a security test and access real company systems.

If an AI agent chooses the product, compares the price and completes the purchase, whoever controls that agent may also control the customer relationship and a growing share of the advertising economics around it. Muse also recently hit No. 1 in the US App Store...

Amazon and Meta may frame this as a security dispute, but there is also a huge commercial question underneath it.

But if systems like Mantic can consistently identify mispriced probabilities earlier than the crowd, the best forecaster on Polymarket may eventually be an AI quietly taking everyone else's money.

Prediction markets still aggregate real money and information from a large group of people, so I would not write them off.

As recently as last year, experts reportedly thought this level of AI forecasting was still about a decade away. Mantic is now hiring, adding compute and pitching the system to hedge funds, companies and governments that make expensive decisions under uncertainty.

Combine the cybersecurity problem and the spending problem, and cybersecurity spending may end up being one of the broadest second-order beneficiaries of the entire AI revolution.

As total surface area expands beyond anyone's wildest dreams (nightmares?), attackers gain more potential entry points, and the consequences move beyond digital breaches and into actual physical operations.
100

And that's on top of the already-increasingly-vulnerable digital infrastructure that powers much of everyday life.

Even with that caveat, the incident is a useful picture of where cyber risk is heading. Ships, factories, power grids and other parts of the physical economy increasingly run through connected digital systems.

Being Exponential | Luke Lango @beingexponential.bsky.social · 22/09/2026
An LNG carrier's crew recently alleged that hackers temporarily took control of steam pressure and safety valve systems, then interfered with cargo pressure controls. The ship was diverted and the incident is still being investigated, so the cyberattack itself has not been independently confirmed.
100
Being Exponential | Luke Lango @beingexponential.bsky.social · 22/09/2026
The longer-term opportunity I keep coming back to is agentic AI growth → cybersecurity demand. As software gains the ability to navigate systems and take action on its own, the number of useful things it can do rises alongside the number of systems that need to be defended.
110
Being Exponential | Luke Lango @beingexponential.bsky.social · 22/09/2026
AI companies still seem unable to rein in spending, which should remain bullish for the infrastructure trade until they eventually figure out how to do more with less. That could take a while.
