I was really disciplined because I lost my job in November (am now working again though)...but I am already looking through lists for more to buy later on, have 4 preorders arriving this month that I purchased earlier in '24.

I am back with another bookish episode of the podcast. This time, it's an interview with author Elba Luz about her debut novel, Build a Girlfriend. We talk about everything from writing inspiration to pets and family, so give it a whirl. #booksky #books #authorinterview youtu.be/4ghqqmeV6rM?...

I start a new job on Monday so this week I have been getting up a little bit earlier in order to adjust to being back at work. I was incredibly lucky to find a job before I became officially unemployed and cannot wait to start fresh with my new company. #newjob #notredundant #newyearnewme

I think that everyone has their go-to. I read pretty much every genre, though I prefer crime (a la Christie) to the darker stuff that many enjoy.

Thrillers and action. My friend is on that same journey right now.

Is there a particular novel you're considering on the TBR? I have a NYE tradition, I pick a book from my 80s bodice ripper shelf. Today I am just finishing the last of my big reads for the year and contemplating my 25 for 2025.

Raye @beingbookish.bsky.social · 30/12/2024

I would say probably. I wonder how many are bots, or maybe sad people who have nothing better to do with their time. Me, I am focusing on which book to read next and waiting for my new job contract to arrive in my inbox!

I love fruitcake if it doesn't have raisins or currants in it! I personally find Christmas fruitcake too dense and heavy and always remember it being so sweet courtesy of the marzipan and royal icing. I now make an almond, sultana and cherry fruitcake which I find lighter and less overwhelming.

Tomorrow marks the end of week 2 searching for a new role. I also say goodbye to a very good friend as she is laid to rest. November was not a good month, but I find myself hoping that as one door is slammed shut, maybe somewhere another door is being pushed slightly ajar.

Welcome to Monday. I am reading the last quarter of A Werewolf's Guide to Seducing a Vampire. It was a pretty productive reading weekend; two books finished, a third started, and a rather odd week coming up. #booksky 📚

It's been a better day today, I've heard from 2 recruiters and have an interview with a third tomorrow (fingers crossed, right?). I also spent a few hours editing and making recommendations on nearly 9k of a new fantasy...now I am going to pick up my book and #read!

Thank you. I am keeping my options open and applying a lot. There is a lot out there, but responses are slow. Until then it's reading, proofing and considering my own options.

010

Raye @beingbookish.bsky.social · 05/12/2024

I would like to get back to writing myself (was quite prolific in my early days), but currently have no motivation for it. She's got some really good ideas and it's proving really interesting to read her work.

020

Raye @beingbookish.bsky.social · 05/12/2024

Day 6 of no job, the lack of responses from a multitude of recruiters is quite demoralising, but I am distracting myself with books and reading. Right now I am reading and editing my cousin's daughter's first four chapters. She's turning her hand to fantasy! #reviews #editing #booksky 📚

That happens. Hopefully, you'll find something that speaks to you. Last year, I had two months where reading didn't happen thanks to a prior month of dreadful. I ended up revisiting an old favourite to restart the engine.
