Too hot on this canicular May Bank Holiday to write a long essay, so a little GIF will summarise it all just as well.

Kerosene too expensive for these poor aviation companies? Worried that they might not be able to fly people this summer? Well, isn't that good news in the fight against climate change?

Finally visited Wistman wood (or rather looked into it from a respectful distance). Enough to see some nice examples of lychen. Not the most spectacular temperate #rainforest but probably the best known one in this country.

"Killed by a SUV driver" would be a more accurate title. Unbelievably sad. Brent was a unique musician, one whose sound you recognise straight away and who could not be put in a box. Farewell genius, I'll play you loud as fuck all day. www.theguardian.com/us-news/2025...

@rspb.bsky.social was enjoying your magazine until I got to this advert. How do you manage to lament the degradation of the natural environment and the impact this has on wildlife and at the same time do the promotion of one of the most polluting and disruptive mode of travel?

How do you ensure a nation fails to cope with drought? Privatise its water system. Almost everyone wants our water renationalised. Almost everyone, that is, except the government. This week's column. www.theguardian.com/commentisfre...

So the UK Met Office is inviting people to suggest up to 5 names for storms. And apparently lots of people have been suggesting "Storm Bigoil", along with BP, Equinor, Exxon & Shell... This is obviously appalling & definitely not to be emulated via this link: www.metoffice.gov.uk/forms/name-o...
Screenshot of form on the UK Met Office website. Text reads: "You can provide up to 5 storm names in the boxes below.

Storm Name: [a user has filled this in with "BigOil"]

Storm Name (optional): [filled in with BP]

Storm Name (optional): [filled in with Equinor]

Storm Name (optional): [filled in with Exxon]

On the 80th anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz, everything that led to the Holocaust is in danger of being forgotten. The Nazis channeled the demands of oligarchs, scapegoated minorities and replaced democracy with a new imperium. Those politics are returning. #NeverForget #NeverAgain
