I just 5-0 trophied with Legacy BUG Aluren. 🏆 It's definitely the best aggro+combo+control deck in the format. Witherbloom Command! I beat the full gauntlet: lands, UR Tempo, Storm, DNT. Full league goes live for channel members tonight and everyone else Dec 2. @fireshoes.bsky.social

5-0 with Legacy UW Tempo Cats. 😽🏆 Daze is so necessary right now. This deck is going to rock once Tamiyo gets banned. (Hence 4x Borrowers.) Mockingbird is the real deal, copying goyfs, bowmasters, even a Sylvan Safekeeper. Video up for channel members TONIGHT. @fireshoes.bsky.social

Back to back 4-1s with UW Cat Tempo🐈 losing only to Jeskai and the 4th storm deck I faced. Giver of Runes wasn't terrible. 4x Brazen Borrowers was oh-so-necessary. I didn't miss the basic plains, even VS moon stompy. Double league vid up for channel members tonight. @fireshoes.bsky.social

5-0 with my Legacy Lands + Loam Pox brew! 🏆 Merit Lage is out. Eumidian Hatchery is in. Crop Rot was insane the entire match, sac'ing Hatcheries, Sagas, and getting early wastelands. How does the deck even win? Waste lock! League vid drops TONIGHT for channel members. 📺 @fireshoes.bsky.social

I just 5-0'd with Legacy UW Cat Tempo!🏆 After a few 4-1 leagues I finally got there. And yes that is 4x Borrower and 0x Ajani. Beat 2x Delver, 1x Reanimator, 1xGob, 1x Moon. Shout-out to @punishingmtgo.bsky.social for inspiration. Video drops tonight for channel members. @fireshoes.bsky.social

I just trophied with CONTROL in 2025. Look Ma, no dazes! I beat Karnforge Mono Black BUG Beans Mardu Tokens @MahfuzVanGogh Dredge Ignore the 3 Reanimates. They're much better as maindeck Spellbombs and never came up. Video goes live for channel members TONIGHT. @fireshoes.bsky.social

Final record 11-4 after playing this super hateful mono white dragon stompy deck. Clarion Conqueror is king! Instead of Chrome Mox we just play more creatures. Video of first 12 rounds will be up for channel members tonight. Beats combo: UB Rean, Breakfast, Karnforge 2x, Helm.

I just trophied AGAIN with Blue Painter – this time with ZERO one rings. It turns out upping baubles and maxing Metallic Rebuke will help you win stack battles. (see screenshot) Full league video is available to channel members TONIGHT. @fireshoes.bsky.social

BeExcellent @beexcellent80s.bsky.social · 11/08/2025

I just recorded a double league with Blue Painter. An absolute blast. Got to take on a range of decks. (Chocobo deck!) Had some insane game-saving top-decks. And of course forced through a Hullbreacher on a brainstorm. 😇 Video live Friday (YouTube members can watch now).

BeExcellent @beexcellent80s.bsky.social · 09/08/2025

Legacy Mono Blue Painter trophy. My first ever league with the deck. It feels well positioned, and abuses two of the most broken cards in Legacy right now: One Ring and Tamiyo. No reserve list cards. Matchups: Karnforge, Breakfast, Goblins, Oops, Oops @fireshoes.bsky.social

Who would win? The combined forces of the most over-powered legacy decks in recent history ...or one shadowy boi? Find out tomorrow on the BeExcellent YouTube channel. (Or right now if you're a channel member.)

Back-to-back trophies with $600 Legacy Mono Blue.🏆🏆 The deck is a blast! I removed Planisphere in favor of Tamiyo. Piracy Charm for anti-BM, but I think MD Dress Down is better. One game I got 9 islands in play. Grindy, but Murk lets you close when you need to. CC@fireshoes.bsky.social

I just got another 4-1 with this $900 NO RESERVE LIST Legacy UB control list. (Losing only to UB Reanimator.) If you want to play control in Legacy but don't own dual lands, this is IMHO a solid option. Video coming soon. @fireshoes.bsky.social

If you can beat me, post a screenshot and at-mention me. I'll send you 120 Play Points for MTGO. * Offer only for first 5 people per month who do this, and does not apply for decks with Entomb, Balustrade Spy, or Creative Technique. Follow me so I can DM you.

BeExcellent @beexcellent80s.bsky.social · 31/05/2025

I just 4-1'd with this $900 UB control deck. Back to Basics was NEVER boarded out. Kids: if you build your deck correctly, you can play zero dual lands and still prevail. (This said the deck could use a Ucity.) Video drops Monday. I'll keep rocking these no reserve list decks.

BeExcellent @beexcellent80s.bsky.social · 28/05/2025

I'm having a blast with BUG Beans. I think 4x Bowmasters is justified in the current meta. Fair magic currently revolves around Bowmasters IMHO. Fun fact: the only 2024 / 2025 card I'm playing is the 2x Harbingers in the side. Sometimes you just don't need fancy new cards.

I just trophied with Legacy Merfolk! 🐠 This list felt amazing. Got some Hullbreacher snipe action and killed a saga with Harbinger. Hexcatcher was MVP for sure. I'll post the video tonight. It will be in Japanese though if that's cool. The first video on my Japanese channel. @fireshoes.bsky.social

Just 4-1'd with today's brew. Legacy Esper Tokens. I got to put all 3 levels of Stormchaser's Talent to use, got Kaito kills, and drew tons of cards off Staff. Video drops next week.

The current post-ban, post-Tarkir legacy meta: 20% tempo 14% tomb ~32% combo Beans-centric observations: 🐈‍⬛LoTVoid probably not justifiable 🪻4x FoN probably is 🥗FoV is strong if you have enough green 🦌Endurance is insane right now

Another 4-1 with The Aetherspark – this time in a Legacy Jeskai Stoneblade Control shell. Felt amazing and only lost to Oops. I got to use all 3 modes of the Aetherspark, and got in some Tamiyo + Pre-war action as well. Video drops tonight at 10 Eastern.

Back to back 4-1's with this UB Kaito Control list, losing only to Oops and UR Reanimator. Kaito is a plenty fast clock once you've established control, and I don't miss Murk. Miser's Daze is awesome. 2 League videos on my YouTube with another coming tonight.

BeExcellent @beexcellent80s.bsky.social · 24/01/2025

Some quick thoughts on Kaito, Bane of Nightmares in Legacy: - he's an insane sideboard card for UB Tempo against control and especially lands - he's an OK build-around card for maindeck creature control decks (BUG control, UB value w/ strix and snap) - he's so fun to play with

Matchups for UB Tempo variants based on my recent play experience (and yes I have played against most of these). F = Favorable U = Unfavorable E = Even Would welcome feedback.

The more I play with surveil lands the more I'm convinced that every non-stompy deck should play one. And the more I'm convinced that since these decks should play one, these decks should splash a 2nd color. Example: it's almost free to splash white in Stiflenought just for STP.

I just 5-0'd with 4x Chain Lightnings in my deck. UR Delver is amazing right now. It just completely slaughters Eldrazi, and has game on a lot of other top decks, too. I'll publish videos of two leagues with this beauty next week on the BeExcellent YouTube channel.

IMHO banning Frog and Nadu would make the meta much more diverse. There's no practical reason NOT to play 4 frog in any UB deck, and there's no reason NOT to play Nadu in any UG deck. I have so many brew ideas for BUG, Esper, and Bant. But then I'm like... damn.

010

BeExcellent @beexcellent80s.bsky.social · 13/12/2024

Stiflenought is going to be awesome post frog ban. I went 3-0 6-0 last night in paper with this frogless UB list: moxfield.com/decks/8lAaaR... Post ban, I may swap out the maindeck pushes for maindeck thoughtseizes (especially if Wizards doesn't ban bauble). More videos coming soon.
