This is certainly true, that with indigenous languages go important ways of understanding nature. But it is also true with respect to 'modern' taxonomic knowledge. Many groups of organisms have lost or never had dedicated experts, leaving them invisible or unitelligible to the broader community.

The Fairy-ring Longhorn Beetle (Pseudovadonia livida) is small and flower loving. An anomaly amongst most longhorns, its larvae developing in soil where Fairy-ring fungus grows, rather than dead wood. Adults love pollen and nectar from umbellifer flowers, as well as they love to mate 💚 🪲 #InsectWeek

After a hard day’s beetling, beetle rescue on my way home. Ants were moving in but this beautiful lesser stag beetle was lucky to encounter this entomologist tonight. Saved from death by ant or human, delivered back into the undergrowth 🪲
