Multiple examples of defensive efforts come to mind, such as Thiago chasing down Tavernier in Brentford’s own third to win back possession. Schade’s pace also helped disrupt counters and cover up mistakes.

Bournemouth routinely targeted Tavernier running into the half-space between Kayode and van den Berg. A difficult task for Kayode to defend, holding the backline while still tracking those runs. Tavernier racked up 1.37 xG alone but Brentford escaped without conceding.

𝗕𝗼𝘂𝗿𝗻𝗲𝗺𝗼𝘂𝘁𝗵 Keith reverted to the tactics that worked last match vs Bournemouth. Collins sent lofted long balls for Thiago to bring down and spring an attack. Brentford wanted to bypass the press, and found success doing so, but struggled to connect in the final third

With Yarmoliuk in the backline, Brentford recycled possession back to Valdimarsson to pull Burnley out of their shell. Yarmoliuk moving to the backline opened space for Jensen to receive a pass. These sequences provided space to attack and kept Burnley out of a compact low block.

𝗕𝘂𝗿𝗻𝗹𝗲𝘆 Brentford routinely found success bypassing Burnley’s press. This forced them to drop into a midblock with Burnley’s front two blocking the passing lanes to Brentford’s defensive midfielders. Yarmoliuk or Jensen then dropped into the backline to help in buildup.

Brighton continued to find Mitoma by switching play. This time, the backline dropped deeper. Gross helped open this up by sliding into the half-space near Henderson but then drifting centrally. This forced Henderson farther back, which gave Kadioglu time and space for a long shot

Brighton then quickly switched play to stretch Brentford’s width and open up space. This required Henderson and Janelt to cover lots of ground.

𝗕𝗿𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁𝗼𝗻 Brentford matched up with Brighton trying to overload the wing. Notice Henderson and Janelt sliding over to help.

Brentford constantly vary buildup but this has to be my favourite. Completely bypasses the press and there's space in-behind to attack. Flekken -> Mbeumo -> Nørgaard Damsgaard pins defenders and creates space for Nørgaard to then play a progressive pass. #IPSBRE #BrentfordFC

Can we talk about Wissa's run? What an effort to get Brentford's third. #BREBHA #BrentfordFC

Kayode and Yarmoliuk start. Yarmoliuk is not only press resistant but adds to Brentford’s rest defence on set plays.

Great example of how effective off ball blocking can be. Damsgaard prevented Martinelli from marking Kayode right before Brentford's goal.

Pinnock in for Sepp. Expect Pinnock and Collins to press Vardy and El Khannouss high up the pitch.

Brentford hold on to the three points but these shot maps from the first and second half tell it all

Ange insisting on building out of the back also allows for more errors (Tottenham are 3rd for errors in the Prem). This not only bypasses the midfield but Ange's high line makes it difficult to defend these balls into the box.

Other than injuries....one of their biggest issues is transitional moments. Sending numbers forward routinely allows opposing teams to bypass their midfield completely.

Assuming this is a 4-4-2 out-of-possession with Yarmoliuk and Damsgaard wide, but curious if the Bees slide into the box midfield we’ve seen in the past.

Flekken and Sepp back in the starting XI with Jensen on the bench. Big role for Janelt today.

Quick breakdown leading up to Forest's goal: Anderson dropped to get on the ball without Norgaard pressing. CHO slipped into the half-space between the lines. Neco's forward run down the wing took Ajer with him, opening up space for CHO. Too easy to bypass Bee's midfield.

Mee slides in for Pinnock. Glad to see Ajer starting.

Big loss for the Bees with Thiago out due to a minor injury. Limits Brentford’s variation in buildup.

Thiago, Carvalho, and Yarmo get the start. Ajer on the bench.

Schade replaces Janelt. Should get Damsgaard a bit more involved.
