110 years ago today, Oct 4th 1916 2nd Lieutenant Henry Kelly led a group of soldiers over the top between Le Sars & Eaucourt l'Abbaye during the Battle of the Somme. Reaching the German trenches they caused havoc before being forced to retreat. He carried his Company Sargent back to the British

Exploring Abbeville on foot, something we didn't do last year. A lot of old history around without realising it. Picked a couple of somewhat interesting beers, Brasserie Du Mont Blanc, a Durvel brand, 'la Verte' with genepi & 'la Bleue' with myrtilles (blueberries). Both were surprisingly good 👍

La Guinguette du Petit Port a fabulous little riverside bar we found last year between the coast & Abbeville. Small but excellent local beer selection majoring in Brasserie de la Somme beers which are quality 👌

You can grade cycle events by type, Type 1 - Fun can't wait to come back, Type 2 - A hard day in the office but fun but I don't need to do it again until you do normally 2moro, Type 3 - Shit I'm never coming back. 2day was Type 1, fantastic parcours & all types of gravel at Mont Blanc Gravel, SME

Well that was the smoothest Channel crossing ever, & not just the flat calm sea. Expected to have EES in Cherbourg as it started on the 7th but sailed straight through & no word of a lie was buying beer in the local V&B within 15mins of disembarking. Now in Brasserie Sainte-Mere-Eglise chilling.

6th Sept 1944 the legendary General Stanislav Maczek & the 1st Polish Armoured Division crossed this now dilapidated bridge between Houtkerque & Watou, beginning the liberation of West Flanders. As well as Poperinge & Ieper our 2nd home Westouter was liberated that day. Photos of bridge & Westouter

Great news from Tilford Brewery which had gone quiet after leaving their location in the car park at the Duke of Cambridge, Tilford. Mark has been made welcome & moved in with Alton's Triple FFF Brewery. His beers can now be found on in their tap room & locally again.

You've probably seen the news & videos of the flash flood in the Grand Canyon. We 1st visited the 'Big Ditch' in 1996, hiked to Plateau Point in '97, after that we returned many times to do the hike that will kill you, Sth Kaibab-River-Phantom Ranch-Bright Angel in a day. Photos are yday & 2003.
