Everyone needs someone in their corner. Our new report shows the shocking lack of investment in Personal Advisers supporting young people leaving care. This means vulnerable teenagers are left to face adulthood completely on their own. Together, lets #EndTheCareCliff. Read the full report:

A dark blue background features the text "Leaving Care Shouldn't Cost Lives" at the top, with a yellow brushstroke below it. Beneath, a large blue speech bubble contains a quote: "When leaving care can lead to the loss of a young person’s life, it’s beyond tragic. It shows why we urgently need to end the care cliff and fix the care system that is failing young people.

Care leavers tell us there’s no-one holding the full picture of their lives, leading to gaps in support and missed warning signs. We welcome the Government’s focus on relationships and the workforce.

Our new research shows Personal Advisers can make a huge difference to the lives of care leavers, but their role is not well understood or supported. Investing in Personal Advisers will be key to ensuring care leavers get the stability they need". Anela Anwar, Chief Executive at Become

Many care-experienced young people don’t get the support they need and are left to face adulthood alone at 16, 17, or 18 - long before anyone should have to be independent. A monthly donation can be a powerful way to show up for young people. Be someone they can rely on: bit.ly/4rWzpUG

It’s great to see the Government committing to recruit and keep more foster carers. We hope this will mean more children can stay close to home and their siblings. Our #GoneTooFar campaign fights to keep children close to the people and places that matter. Find out more: loom.ly/A5d26pM
On a red background, large white text at the top reads “ Keeping children close to the people and places that matter”

Below this is a pink rectangular quotation box containing the text: "We welcome the Government’s commitment to recruit and retain more foster carers, particularly strengthening local authority provision, so more children can stay close to home and with their siblings.

For too long, children in care have been moved to a foster home miles away, due to nowhere suitable nearby, breaking relationships, disrupting education and harming their mental health.

With foster carers leaving the sector in record numbers while children continue to enter care each year, this plan must work now and for the future. Success will mean no child is moved away, when it’s not in their best interests.

Keeping children close to the people and places that matter to them must be the priority, so they have the stability, safety and support they need.

It's good to see the Government increasing support for care leavers but it doesn't go far enough. Thousands of care-experienced young people are still facing homelessness every year. Let's fix this. Let's permanently #EndTheCareCliff Read our letter in The Guardian: loom.ly/Ub_4FUE
On a red background, large yellow text at the top reads “LET’S END THE CARE CLIFF.” Below this is a pink rectangular quotation box containing the text: “...The Government’s recent offer of free eye tests and prescriptions for care leavers is a welcome step in strengthening support for those leaving care. However, this measure does little to address the far more urgent crisis facing care leavers: a third will experience homelessness within two years of leaving care.” The quote is attributed in blue text at the bottom of the quotation box to Anela Anwar, Chief Executive, Letter, The Guardian.
